Sorry for your loss. The worst part about being a pet owner is knowing you will outlive them. I have lived out of state twice in my life and every time I saw someone wearing something with detroit sports on it, it gave me the same calmness. Its funny how that works.

Feel for you man, we had to say goodbye to one of our doggos over the weekend – cancer as well. It sucks, I miss my buddy. They really are the best. Even though we lost the game Saturday night it was a welcome distraction for sure.

I feel your sorrow—I recently lost a cat and I grew up with a shepherd really similar to your beloved Romeo that I remember very fondly. (Safe to say, the multitude of pets in my life all were fans of the Winged Wheel!)

We lost our dog in July due to cancer and it was such a bad day. It is hard to move on after you love somebody this much.

So sorry for your loss. I’m a pooch lover, and they’re part of the family. Hurts to lose one. I think they live such a short life because they spend so much energy trying to show us love and affection.
Just found out late last year that our pup has a non-operable tumor that has already spread. It’s going to tear me up when the time comes. She watches the Wings with me too.

That was a sign from the hockey gods and the dog gods. A pet is unconditional love. A dog is more than a pet to me. They are an extension of my kids.. just have 4 legs. Sorry for your loss, but happy you got some extra time needed at the end!

I usually avoid posts like this on other subs to avoid the feels I know they’ll bring. My 13 year old mutt and best bud for almost as long has had his share of health issues but gets up every day like a champ in the morning and acts half his age everyday when I get home from work. Posts like this remind me how incredibly valuable those two gifts are and that their value increases with every day they are given.
Even though they don’t see how emotionally devastating their loss is to you, it’s a reflection of just how much love you put into them over their lifetime with you. They may not see your sadness right now, but throught the years you spent with them, they have always been aware of how much you cared for them.

I lost my cat on January 21st due to cancer, with only weeks of notice. All of the reminders at home have broken me. The past two mornings Ive cried hysterically because he isn’t there meowing for food.
But, tonight I feel better than I did yesterday and tomorrow will be the same. Every day will be easier for you as well.
You loved Romeo and he knew that. No doubt you made him the happiest boy everyday.

The Winged Wheel means so much more to me than just the Red Wings. It serves as a symbol of comfort for me. It reminds me of my childhood, those great seasons in the 90s and 00s, some of my earliest memories. It reminds me of my friends and family, and the common bond we share as fans of this team. I’ve lived in 4 different cities all across the US since I graduated college in 2017, and it’s this little piece of home I can take with me everywhere I go.
I’m glad it comforted you too in those final days with your buddy. It’s hard to lose a pet.
