Coaching ain't gonna fix lack of effort in a game. Canucks need to play a full game and not try to win with one good period of play. High doubt a coaching change will do anything. Need a team to buy into defensive posture. Look at goals per game. Canucks take 5 or more goals to win often but won't help with bad defense and lack of goalie experience. Seen this most seasons. Need to shore up defense and maybe nhl matured goalie. In Bruce's defense he can't fix lack of motivation and porous defense. It wasn't coach was organization and players that let Bruce down. Bad plays costing alot games and bad penalties. New coaching will have a monterous task to fix uninspired players and lack of team defense.
Without a dramatic change in ownership and management, the Canucks really will be trapped in purgatory for many years to come.
Don't know another about Bruce as a coac, but I think Tocchet will want more toughness and finishing out of games out the Vancouver players. Not sure if the Vancouver Canucks are ready for a coach like that?

Structure bad. Two many men penalties.. on and on. Nobody is talking about the owner not allowing another coach. Goaltending has been brutal. And this is not Jim's coach.
I hope the ticket sales decrease as that's all the owners care about. Stop buying jerseys etc. Hit the owners where it hurts.
Wouldn't be surprised if Kuzmenko decided to not re-sign and said that part of the reason he signed in Vancouver was because of Bruce. Bruce literally drove 6 hours just to meet him and talk to him about joining Canucks. And this kind of person our management did like this.
Bruce is a great guy…but he wasn't the coach they need right now. Has has also made a lot of questionable decisions so far this season. With that said, based on what Allvin said today, who knows who was actually making the lineup choices. I don't think Tocchet is the guy either…hope I'm wrong though. Rutherford I think is maybe going a little senile and Allvin, based on everything he said today, I don't think he is a good GM, but I now think he is a liar.
I've been willing to give them plenty of chances to see what they do and how they get out of this…but you can clearly see Allvin and Rutherford are lying about this all went down. Making a coaching change when you are 6th worst team in the league, the coaches contract is up in a few months, and there is only 36 games left in the season…you clearly arent making the playoffs…so embrace the high draft position you are currently in.
Here's the kicker. After last year. Jim didn't like the structure. So we will know very soon.

tocchet seems to be some interim coach while you search for a real coach.
What a shitshow this turned into. Arizonas roster wasn't much worse when this dude was coach than ours is now. I'm not sure how they think tochett is the answer, but I'm hopeful he has some strategy that will work with our team..not holding my breath though.

I have been a die hard Canucks fan for years, since they were still in the Western Hockey League and I will continue to be a fan of the team of players but I will not be a fan of the ownership and current management. The thing that I would love to see is the fans stop going to the games, but that will never happen.
The Canucks are the NY Knicks, Washington Commanders, Houston Texans & Cincinnati Reds all rolled into one in terms of having everything that makes those teams a joke in their respective leagues. All of the teams I have mentioned & the Canucks have these things in common: an owner who doesn't care about the fans & who the fans absolutely hate, GM's that make horrible decisions & talented players who don't want to be there due to all of the incompetence surrounding them. As a Seattle fan, I hope the Canucks turn things around soon because I want a competitive rivalry with them & not have to resort to having Vegas & LA as our rivals.

NHL and Canadian TV networks have pussyfooted around ineptitude like this for decades, not wanting to turn off fans or offend ownership. This was great. Even though I've lived in New York and LA since the 70s I grew up in BC. My heart sank when Trevor Linden left and I sensed this was coming. Sad.
40+ year fan of the Canucks Watched them enter the league, the sub-par years, the golden years of Stan Smyl, Brodeur, Trevor Linden, and the Sedin Twin era I have always supported the team and watched the games through poor seasons and good one NOT ANYMORE! I stopped watching this year for the first time I occasionally watch a higlite video just to see how much they lost by. The managment has to be re-made from the scouting level all the up to player development and upper management before I watch another Canuck game Life too short to watch this team
Plus/Minus tells a lot… Boess/Miller -14/-16 OEK/Burro -18/ Owner/GM/Pres appease fans w bad signings… then keep their hi pay jobs… but team never rebuilds…. Then look at the pay Boess $6.7m Mill $8m, OEK $8+m…etc

So sad but I agree with your evaluation of the woes of the Canucks. As an Ottawa fan, I have been disappointed more than once. They couldn't get Karlsson to re-sign evan at the money they offered because he wanted to win. As you said, players did not want to play for a loser. Same in Ottawa because rumor (and sometimes fact) said the owner would not pay and go get players to win a cup.2007 was a good year, 2017 was a good year, maybe 2027 will be our year. I'd love for you to do a segment like the Canucks one but with Ottawa. The way they treated Bruce was shameful; Ottawa had Alfedsson and Philips walk away because ??
I am happy to see the return of a Pat Quinn, Jack McIlhargey and Stan Smyl type of coaching staff. The pussification era is over.. Glory Be!!! Tocchet and Foote with Gonchar making men out of men once again. Play hard or go home. Ikea hockey is in the rear view mirror.

What a shameful way to treat a coach. Rutherford and the a$$hat Aquilini clan have joined the ranks of the Despicable. Equally shameful is the rabid approach to shopping the team captain around taken by this management team. Rutherford has already established himself as most definitely NOT a class act, and we now have more evidence to support that opinion.
While not a Canucks fan, as a hockey fan, how this team treated Boudreau was criminal. Really appreciate your honesty at the end there! Good luck the rest of the year.

Feel badly for Boudreau but in the big picture, it's just another day in sports. Tochett and Foote is just what this Country Club needs right now. Seperating the wheat from the chaff is step one .
Sorry, they should have traded JT Miller last year at peak value for multiple draft picks. The team wasn't good enough to win last year and they could have used the cap space.
The only fitting punishment for the organization is they lose every game the rest of the way and still lose out on Bedard

I feel gutted for Shannon watching this video. As someone who’s been a lightning fan since ‘92. I can relate so much to what he says and how hopeless things were in the 90s because it was just a poorly run team. Even after an amazing 04, the team took a horrible downward spiral for a while. If the lightning can do it, the canucks can too!
Neilson took them to a Cup Final but lost to the Isles during their fantastic dynasty run.

“Criminal” is the exact word I used too. I’m by no means a Canucks fan, but I have to tip my hat to both the Canucks players and fans for sticking behind Bruce. This is in no way, shape, or form Bruce’s fault. As you stated, it’s all about drafting and a failure to build a winning team. As an Oilers fan, I definitely know that you need to draft beyond the 1st round, and sometimes those 1st round picks don’t work out.
This 100% management’s fault. This soap opera should never have went on this long. I’ll go one further and say that Bruce should never have been let go in the first place. He didn’t lose the room and I think the team overachieved under his tenure, if anything. Let’s call a spade a spade here.
