NHL goalies are a DIFFERENT breed

Tonights Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vancouver Canucks was a simply a wild one that saw 6 goals in the first period alone! The Canucks came out strong, but with their track record this year of giving up leads, the Penguins pushed back. Down to their 3rd string goalie, after DeSmith got pulled, Penguins net minder Dustin Tokarski came up huge. At one point, he lost his glove and went on to make a save anyway. The Pens pushed back hard in this one and came back. I cover the it all in todays NHL hockey highlights recap!

  1. Tokarski* I had it written down as Takorski, so forgive my mispronunciation of Tokarski's name!

  2. I’m a goalie (obviously not NHL or anything even remotely close) and I can say that a lot of us goalies go into the game with the mentality “just stop the puck at all costs” because that is what will give our team the best chance of winning. So he honestly probably didn’t even think when his glove came off. You can also see that mentality come through when Fleury’s mask came undone, and he legit shook it off.

  3. This game was insane. Bob was loving "Toe" so much. DeSmith has been doing horrible lately. This AHL goalie was doing amazing and putting a shame to DeSmith. This is twice that Penguins have to use AHL goalies as the team is a glass cannon. The Penguins are in a weird state i find. They are crap against good teams and they have trouble beating crappy teams. This game was just crazy.

  4. It's truly a Pittsburgh thing, where you always love the backup goalie, quarterback, etc., rather than the better player when they are on a bad streak. DeSmith played great in Arizona, and yet homers still think he's worse than an AHL guy. They felt the same back in the 90's when Barasso would have an off night, and scream that they wanted Young, or Pietrangelo in net.
