To be fair though if they're in any other division they would have a fairly comfortable playoff spot and wouldn't even be in the spotlight like this
I like streaky in the NHL. I can see the Pens making a deep playoff run.
It’s hard being a pens fan
Time to let Zucker, Dumoulin and Kapanen go and get younger and maybe also let Carter go as well. We need speed and guys that can be counted on and cost less
I think the old Pens are going to peter out as the year finishes out.
Great analysis on the Pens, who are baffling many of their fans so far this season. I just don't see them going very far if they even make the playoffs.
The wildcard about the Penguins this season is genuinely how hard they rally around Letang's return. I don't expect Letang to come back for much more than a game or two before the break, but after that I expect there to be something extra in their game.

As a penguins fan, I am dying for Hextall to make a move that will help this team. The penguins need to make a move in order to change the trajectory of the end of Sid, Malkin, and Letang's career.

The D contribution to the offense is near the bottom of the league (I heard 28th?), which is not enough to beat Canes or Isles or other top teams.
The pattern is constructing a team that could beat Trotz's Isles. Sullivan-Crosby-Guentzel are on the same page.
PENS fans hate the thug Rangers for depriving us of beating TB: we wanted to be the team to stop their three peat, though I doubt we'd beat COL. PENS window may be closed, but Pittsburghers value loyalty and will cheer this core to the end of their careers as thanks for the Cups. We are also hating on the Kraken since they get Tanev and McCann in the expansion draft. They basically stole our depth guys, that we needed and miss. If we protected McCann we'd have lost Zucker.
PENS fans have been spoiled, they forgot what it was like in the 70s when we were bottom dwelling doormats. As long as Malkin-Crosby play we will want another Cup. When they retire we will suffer– draft high for three years and get back to the top. Go PENS! It is a great day for hockey!
GMJR won two Stanley cups but also bankrupted the penguins prospect base back to the Stone Age with goofy cup chasing trades. I’m surprised he got another high end job after bailing on the pens

Pens definitely play better at home. they always know how to put on a show at home – winning or tying in the dying minutes of the game.
Pens have 2 big problems, the 3rd line and defense. 3rd line is hamstrung by Carter finding some way to replace him at 3C is paramount. The defense really needs 58 & 26 back so they can asses the Dumo situation. Add Jarry and functional powerplay to that and Ill have hope they can turn it around.
the loss to the rangers i think had more to do with crosby being out for the couple games he missed. im convinced, with the way he shut down zibanejad, that they would have won in 6 if he had not been hurt.
Trading malkin or letang would just look odd

Keeping the three headed monster isn't the problem. It's injuries/lack of bottom 6th depth/dumo
if you keep 87, 71, 58 you have to build around them, build a young fast hungry team, instead they have guys like dumoulin, petry, carter, old and slow
this team is bad & they won't make the playoffs, hextall really should get fired, if anyone thinks this team is in win now mode you're insane lol

I'm a Pittsburgh fan and I'm sad to say I think we're on the cusp of aging out and having to rebuild, and once that happens I don't think we'll be seeing the playoffs again for a while
I’m pro rebuild
The Pens were working on getting younger, but Rutherford quit and now Hextall decided to slow them down and make them the oldest team in the league.
This team is not constructed well at all. Plus our defense is so banged up it’s ridiculous, add in Jarry also being out and the fact that the penguins had the hardest schedule in the entire eastern conference, the fact that we are over .500 is great in my opinion. There have been some really bad stretches, and the power play without Letang has been completely abysmal, but I feel like the second half will be much better (I don’t think we could possibly be worse), so I definitely see them getting a wildcard spot. But I don’t think anyone realistically thought this team was more than a first round exit again. Oldest team, really bad depth, and no cap space to work with.. they’re on their way down and it happens. 16 straight playoff years with 3 cups in that span and a finals loss is nothing to scoff at.

They won't make the playoff and will win the draft lottery. Time for the NHL to gift another generational talent to the Penguins.

No. The argument can not be made. It's bewildering how people STILL somehow manage to make that ridiculous claim, when Crosby hasn't won a thing in how many years? An individual award in how many years? He has never had any serious consideration for the Selke from anyone, not even during his best years, and SOMEHOW people have still convinced themselves that he might be the most complete player in the league. Unbelievable. And laughable, the depths to which Canadian homers are willing to sink to to keep the delusions about their wonderchild going.
They’ll somehow still be in the Playoffs and higher up than you expect. They just find ways, and players with that Donk/Flibbet magic.
Biased Pens fan here: The window is closed and I'm content. We will see the Core together and likely retire together. Great, it feels good but they'r not winning another cup anytime soon. They're the oldest team in the league in a professional sports league that keeps getting younger. Injuries have plagued the team and it's not Sully or the coaching staff. The team is old and that's that. They've peaked and honestly it's okay. Pens fans, know that we've witnessed some of the best hockey since 2005. Fleury, Malkin, Sid, Letang, Kessel etc. We've had a great run, but it'll be time to move on soon and begin a new era.
I've basically just stopped caring if the pens win. We're gonna be a middle of the pack team that misses the playoffs but doesn't get a good pick, and I can't trust hextall to do anything in the draft besides draft a bust. All in all, I'm aware the cup window has closed, but I'm disappointed I don't have anything to look forward to, I can't even cheer for loses like Chicago.
