So our team is better off with this better goalie tandem, but the two goalies we got rid of are in the top 10 in GAA

GAA isn’t really a great goalie stat both goalies are playing really well this year but their team defense around them is better than what the caps had to offer last year
Our defense was awful last year, but the goalies were also inconsistent. Not bad, just inconsistent. They now have good defenses and another year under their belts. I think all sides ended up better in this situation.
GAA doesn’t paint a good picture of the goalie, but rather the team defense.
Sv% and GSAA are much better metrics to isolate the goalie.
And yes, our goalie tandem is absolutely better this year. They’re saving as much as expected (and more) with the shitshow in front of them. Sammy and VV are both playing for better teams and are fine but would definitely be drowning here.
NJD and TOR have good defenses in front of their goalies and WSH doesn’t.
It’s also most like if you put a defense in front of a goalie they ain’t half bad
