I know that nobody likes moral victories but I feel like, despite this now making a losing streak, Buffalo can hang their hat on they played a hot goalie and still got two on him when it should have been more. I think for a lot of other teams, that performance last night results in a shut out.

Personally I’m not upset here. I’m upset about Monday. Can’t have that.

Monday was awful, Tuesday was a mixed bag but arguably unavoidable, last night was just unfortunate.

Grubauer and Hellebuyck both were great the last two games. It happens on occasion.
As long as we don’t have too many games like Monday we can keep pushing forward.

Exactly. Sometimes your goalie will steal the game – last night was definitely one of those.

With a goalie like that we need more bodies in front of the net, especially on the power play. Clean vision and Hellebuyk will stop you all day.

Team shooting percentage regressing to the mean a bit. It had to come at some point

I love seeing this sub being positive and looking on the bright side. I can’t stand these “fans” who just give up after a few bad games and start shit talking the team.

Jets are SNEAKY good this year and … damn I knew Hellebuyck was good but seeing it in person… was something else.

That was the third quality goalie we had in a row / still good to see them find possession and create chances last night!

We just need to goalie people occasionally to eliminate the long losing streaks. It will be addressed in time I think. We have solved the harder puzzle of putting the puck in the net.

It was a tough game to watch due to us losing the two before, but there was plenty of positive to take away from this one. It was our 3rd line’s best game of the year. Still some mistakes as you’d expect from your 3rd line, but all three of them were dominating their matchup. I had Oloffson as my surprise glow-up player for this year, and while he’s let me down so far, nights like these let me know that he has the potential to become more than just a goal scorer. His other strength is “setting,” which is a pass that leads to a scoring opportunity, and we saw it yesterday with his pass to Jost. He’s also adding some hustle to his game, something that the line desperately needed.
It’s still a longshot for him to reach another level, but I’m not giving up on him yet. And Mittsy and Jost are both growing each game, which is fantastic to see.
On a less positive note, I’m ready to see Krebs move up from the 4th line. I think he’s learned what he can about playing a hard game in the corners, it’s time to get him some wingers with skill and scoring threats. I kind of want to see Cozens centering Okie and Girgs for a bit, because I think that line would dominate as a checking line and Cozens could be the legit scoring threat that the line needs. Then, put Krebs with Aspie and Hino for a high-energy underdog line. Would love to see Donny make that change, especially after three back-to-back losses. Although as I’m saying that, I recall Donny saying that the kids are coming back on Saturday so I’m not sure I feel the same if they are rotated in…

For a fanbase that allegedly watches a lot of hockey, they really don’t know what “goalied” means.
To get goalied means that the goalie STOLE the game.
Last night the Sabres had (according to Natural Statrick) 10 HDCF. This was on 50 shot attempts. In other words, 40 of the shots on goal were pretty standard.
Recalling the game, I can think of 2, maybe 3 “big saves” that Hellebuyck made. That’s not getting “goalied” that’s just a goalie doing about a standard job.
If you look at the heat map at 5v5, you can see that while the Sabres took a fair amount of shots from the slot, the majority were from the very high slot. Compared to the Jets heat map which is predominantly in tight.
Last nights xG leaned in the Sabres favour due to a high amount of accumulation. But as has been the case recently, they didn’t create a lot of really good chances. Lots of shots, but not a lot of real high quality stuff. Which is fine, but that’s not “getting goalied” and it’s more about accumulating numbers then generating numbers.
