Simon Lizotte & Discmania Parting Ways • The Drop Zone w/ The Disc Golf Guy • Lizotte Sponsorship

UPDATE:
Roughly 3 or 4 hours after I discussed this subject Simon Lizotte posted a video to his YouTube channel which can be found by clicking on this next link. Please keep in mind, I was live at roughly 3AM and had no knowledge or previous viewing of Simon’s video which was posted 3 or 4 hours later:

Original Info:

At least SOME of the rumors are true as Simon Lizotte is no longer with Discmania.

Almost immediately after reading the news of Simon and Discmania parting ways I jump on this live stream to quickly break down what we know. Of course we could perfectly then segue into what we ‘think’ we know moving forward as well.

Will Simon still play disc golf?

If so, who will Simon sign with?

What will his contract look like?

What may or may not of caused this and how could him and Discmania part ways?

Will he try to raid my storage to throw (or just break) my old discs?

Tune in and find out.

  1. Call me crazy for going live at 2 or 3 in the morning but I couldn't hold back. If you like these types of random streams and such please let me know in the comments. Also, consider becoming a Patreon member if you wish as it helps me create more whacky content such as this.

  2. Whomever Simon signs with, my guess is MVP, will definitely get their moneys worth. In my eyes, Simon is the only other disc golfer to rival Mcbeth, in popularity. So, I hope Simon gets paid every penny for what he's worth and then some. My guess is that it will be the biggest contract for a player in disc golf history thus far.

  3. I’m kinda hoping he goes to MVP. Seems like it would be a good fit. That being said, he’s the only player that could get me to buy Discraft.

  4. I'm gonna say latitude 64. People seem to forget it's a separate company from dynamic and West side.

  5. Simon's good at pool and darts but he isn't million dollar contract good, no way he stops playing dg yet.

  6. Terry, I hope you feel as valued as I think you deserve. You are a constant source of DG content and have been for probably longer than most people know. Much love.

  7. No way he’s going to Innova. Would love to see him throwing a mixed bag but would also love to see him link up with James at MVP

  8. I think it's a combo of MVP and TSA. And the whole moving thing, he'll have enough to have 2 homes. Between his years of working with TSA already, connection to Maple Hill and Steve, it just makes sense. From MVP it makes even more sense. Let him continue with TSA and GRIP bags, have a 50/50 bag split or something, since MVP makes TSA and they have a great relationship that I see no end in sight. Plus MVP makes AMAZING discs, meaning TSA are also AMAZING. I can't fricken wait to see what comes. MVP did great by James, all of his signature discs are fantastic, and he's super happy. Now that their manufacturing upgrade is almost complete, they will be a dominate force ion the future of disc golf. They seem to have the best business plan of any DG company. Simon is gonna be in good hands in my opinion.

  9. I would love to see Simon double down on his friendships he's made and go to Thoughtspace Athletics, but that would overshadow their recent signing of Thomas Gilbert. I can't see it happening.

  10. Sad for the rumors that have tainted this move and the release of sponsorship. The move and change would have been more appropriate without all the hype and leaked information of him leaving by just letting him do it.. it takes away from his video and announcement and saddens me that the disc golf community would try and benefit from this before he even had a chance to announce it himself.. best wishes to Simon and Discmania for their futures and respect to them both.. not much for the rumor starters and others trying to grab some views at there expense.

  11. Where could he go?
Can't see it being Discraft, they already have a lot invested in MPO players, including one that will also sell discs forever on a very long-term contract. Dynamic just spent a bunch on Ricky, another similar player. Westside has never spent money like that. That leaves 3:

Lat64 – he already likes their plastic, they are missing a premier MPO player, Simon is European.

Innova – not known for big contracts, they have spent money on Calvin, but they certainly have the money if they are interested. Seems fairly unlikely.

Prodigy – lost a player recently, but they already have their premier MPO player and they seem happy with their glut of young promising MPOs. Also them spending on Simon without a single premier FPO pro would be scandalous. Seems unlikely.

MVP/Axiom – unclear if they have the money to make such a move or would, seems unlikely, but would at least be interesting.

If it is Discraft or Dynamic, that would feel like either company being super aggressive in the market race to be the biggest pro player company, and I would expect Innova to respond next year.

  12. As someone who has recently had a child (now 2+) and took a temporary break from work to raise his kid… I could totally see Simon stepping away from disc golf for a while if not permanently. If so, more than likely to do something more local and travel less. You never get those years of life back so if it's financially feasible, I say more power to him.

  13. Huge for dg. Jussi went from mentor to dark lord. Simon, needs the gyro so we can see if really they are indeed making the most superior spinning object. This is good for the planet and Simon.

  14. He said in his video that he got an offer that was different. It’s possible he was offered a partnership in a company that would pay him for the rest of his life.
