Players have a limited window to make massive amounts of money for their future. I wouldn’t take a discount having the best year of my life…I like bunting but playing with matthews and nylander ice is more available than if you were on a 3rd or 4th line.
Time to cash in he deserves it.
Let’s hope it’s a big cap increase. I’d give him 4.75 million x 5

Agents have to love this type of speculation. All totally baseless. Players should lick their chops at a contract … i know i would. Speculation is crazy .
8 years for Bunting? Nylander at 10M a season? Kampf at 4.5 for an extension ?.
The Real question is how you shed one of the big ones, get some piece parts to make room.

bunting is gonna sign a long term deal at a friendly number, he's from scarborough literally living the dream of every kid. he does not drive a line but he's clearly good enough to hang with players like matthews and marner. it's similar to the crosby kunitz effect, kunitz is a good player but everyone knows how he got his points

Bunting is playing with the Leafs best players. Hard to say what he is really worth.

Put Bunting on the 3rd line for a year and he is no where NEAR 50-60 points.
He is a great fit for #34 but not at 5m.
None of the big guys on the Leafs took discounts. 4.5 is fair market value, the Leafs will offer an insulting amount like they did to Hyman, Bunting will look for 5+. Wouldn't be shocked if he's gone next year, these guys aren't stupid, they're only going to get one big deal so maximize it.
Anything over 3m per just let him walk, and give Robertson a legit shot at a top two line position next year, if he's not traded for a playoff peace they are in need of at the deadline.

Bunting will 28 years old next year. His value will never be higher. Hes going to score a Hyman like contract, 5 years 25 mil or so
Discounts are for end of career contracts (like Gio) not first bite at the pile. Insulting that he’d ever be asked. Leafs set a number, if he wants more go to one of these alleged A+ prospects the Leafs have in the minors. 7 year deals are ridiculous anyway
