NHL returns to Winnipeg | TSN broadcasts from May 31, 2011

Look back at May 31, 2011 — FIFTEEN years ago — when it was confirmed NHL hockey was returning to Manitoba’s capital.

The True North Sports and Entertainment group announced that they have completed a deal to purchase the Atlanta Thrashers and move them to Winnipeg in time for the 2011-12 season.

The sale is still pending NHL Board of Governors approval, which should occur on June 21 when the board meets in New York. The transfer of ownership requires 75 percent approval from the Board while relocation only needs a majority result.

  1. One of the GREATEST DAYS …Of my LIFE.

My friend Mark …got to save the Winnipeg Jets.
Something he wanted to do for ALL OF US Winnipeggers in 1996.

Some of you fair weather fans need to REMEMBER that …15 years without the NHL was NOT a good time.

  2. And since then we've only had one general manager. With the greatest trophy in his case being an easy out in the conference finals

Negativity aside, what an amazing blast from the past. It's great to see this city so filled with hope and anticipation for the future
