Heritage: The Ottawa Senators Early Years

Turns out it was a lot more than “Ottawa Apologizes”. Honestly, they didn’t apologize enough for what they inflicted on the hockey world in their early years. To say that the Senators launch was full of turbulence and turmoil is a complete understatement. It was a shitshow. Honestly, to call it an absolute shitshow might be an insult to the term itself. Lawsuits, thieves, ownership struggles, arena concerns, the mascot stealing the company car? Ottawa dealt with it… and they probably apologized profusely (unless they promoted a member of the ownership team to be the GM of the franchise). With such chaos, will the Senators find a way through the chaos? Or will true heritage find a way to emerge in the end?

I’ve wanted to do this video for a good bit. I simply hope I did the madness justice.

  1. New Tree content about my Ottawa Senators? And posting it on the day Detroit crashes out and we clinch? Oh what a cherry on top of a beautiful day.

  2. Not having the Dean Brown call on the Igor Kravchuk empty netter is grounds for a breakfast meeting

  3. Just one miserable cup final run for this franchise that was brought back from the ashes. May they see some success in the future.

  4. The Sens are the only team that is 0-5 against the LEAFS. Let that sink in.

  5. Legend has it that when the Senators lose at home, you might still find Mel Bridgman's ghost somewhere in a remote place in the Canadian Tire Centre saying "Ottawa apologizes" from beyond the grave.

Rest easy, Mel. You gave us one of the most hilarious stories in sports. RIP.🕯

  6. Danny Heatley had back to back 50 goal seasons & they had a cup final in '07 so they ended up doing better than the Leafs, all things considered

  7. "To be fair, it would be hard to fuck up the second pick in the draft."

  8. Thanks for this. I only became a fan of the team and hockey in 96/97. Am I a bandwagon jumper or fairweather fan?

  9. Playing as the Senators on Sega Genesis was a real challenge. COME ON DARREN RUMBLE MOVE YOUR SLOW ASS

  10. Pretty weird situation to be the last team In to the playoffs and be confident In saying, “bring on whoever” let’s go!!

  11. I am a Pens fan and was living in Ottawa through the early Sens days, my first hockey game live ever was seeing Pens vs Sens in Ottawa's first season, I was 7, defending Stanley Cup champions vs those Senators… Ottawa fucking won lol, the only time that year Ottawa beat Pittsburgh and that's the one I saw live.

I did get a sweet fake NHL trading card though with me in a Pittsburgh Penguins sweater and I insisted they print my name on it with (Traded) added to make sure that though it was an Ottawa Senators themed card I was one of the Pens XD

  12. Bob Kudelski reference, I remember that trade lol, dumbass was still the Ottawa repat the all star game after the trade lol

  13. they are a team this season as well, one that is going to the playoffs, unlike the leafs

  14. I wonder if we'll get a part 3 as the Senators began to rise in the late 90s and towards the 2000s, only to fall painfully short.

This includes their one trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006. ONE.
