I knew they would miss the playoffs again at the start of the season because they picked up Hamonic and JBD from Ottawa. Suck it Wangs fans!!
Wings disgruntled fan here… I grew up with the Wings winning 4 Cups!!! This is by far the most devastating stretch of hockey Ive ever witnessed… Dissatisfaction at its finest!
How sweet is it for Alex Lyon to have been traded off the wings and then help run the Sabres out of the drought and actually see the playoffs? Good for him, man….Dude left a sinking ship and joined one who's actually got a bright future.
I knew they weren't as good as their place in the standings suggested, but I thought they'd make the playoffs. The absolute collapse is inexcusable.
There needs to be firings at pretty much every level of this organization. Nobody should be safe, especially not Yzerman. 7 years into his so-called rebuild and we still don’t know what the direction of this team is. Our prospect pool is overhyped. We have no high end prospects, just a bunch of middle 6 complimentary players. Cossa might turn out to be a great goalie for us, but we have to actually play him to find that out. Augustine is probably our most hype prospect, and he’s nowhere close to making this team. Yzerman has been an embarrassment.
Listen, you guys predicted this at the beginning of the season and Red Wings fans all dismissed what you had to say.
The truth be told this roster is not very good. They lack scoring at both the top and secondary positions. They are not physical in the corners. They lack skilled center who can help create plays in the offensive zone. They have three functional defenseman and Gibson played unbelievably well done the stretch which kept them in gain they had no business winning.
At the beginning of the season as a hard-core fan, I had them in the bottom 10 of the league so I guess in that regard they actually finished much better than what I predicted. The problem is there appears to be little room for growth in the holes are gonna continue to grow and both the top of the lineup and the bottom . Also, our bottom six is just got awful terrible
What?!? I thought yzerman was the man with the plan? Every move he made was brilliant, playing 4D chess,etc. that's all we would hear.
This is what happens when you pat someone on the back for something they haven't done yet.
Detroit deserves this for their blind following and arrogance.
The Wings are cooked from top to bottom. The players are gutless, coaching has seemingly lost the room, and Yzerman is giving away the future for a slim chance at a first round exit. Absolute insanity.
Everyone on this team must drive an automatic because none of them know the meaning of clutch.
You can't convince me as a wings fan, that swapping the bottom 6 and bottom half of the d core with the record breaking players in Grand rapids this season, we wouldn't be firmly in a playoff position.
Agree with comment that even at the beginning of the season this team would not go into playoffs. About 15 years ago I predicted that Wings are not going to be competitive for 20-25 years. Do far I don't see anything that will tell me that things will improve any time soon. The whole Izerman's team should be fired. To long of a conversation to get into. So I don't think I will see another cup in my life. I am 63 now. Red Wings fan since 1993. Consider myself lucky to see 4 Stanley Cups. So if they will start rebuild next year – it will take another 5-6 years to become competitive. And around 10-15 before they will be able to compete for the Cup.
As a Blue Jackets fan, I am rooting for Wings (and Leafs) on Thursday night.
I grew up watching the Wings(fell away from hockey, moved to FL and started following Tampa in 2018), and they are a far cry from the juggernaut I remember!

Dylan Larkin complained last year because no moves were made. Steve makes a move this year with the exact same result. Larkin needs to go.
The red wings 5v5 numbers, mixed with a -9 goal differential means this team is pond water.
The signs were there all year, it's not at all surprising that the wings are going to miss
All those Yzerman truthers that came after Adam for predicting they'd miss the playoffs owe him several apologies. Maybe they'll also get jobs once Yzerman gets fired and they no longer have a guy to lust over.
Steve Dangle was right all along and he should be demanding an apology from every Red Wings fan who mocked him for his preseason take.

It wasn't just the loss of Larkin, they lost Edvinsson and really struggled through the last games before the Olympic break. The lack of depth at D was abundantly clear at that point. It started the bleeding and the reason for going for Faulk.
Earlier in the season Detroit fans said they had a better defense than Sabres lol, Dahlin, Byram, Samuelson, Power, yeah ok. Buffalo highest scoring D in league last time I checked
Sheeshkibbles is right Steve! Sheeshkibbles indeeeeed. Wings fans are tired, and all but the most ARDENT supporters of Yzerman are actively calling for a blow up from the top down. It’s a wild time to be a fan.
I can tell you don’t watch a lot of games. The defence core was actually not one of the issues when they were collapsing. It was a lack of 5v5 scoring, plus depth scoring. They need to another true t6 scoring winger (like elite level) and wholesale change the bottom 6 guys.
As a redwings fan when you find it embarrassing to wear gear for the team out in public, and you take emblems off of the car, you used to be proud of, just so you aren’t embarrassed to showcase your fandom for the team – that’s when you know it’s really bad.

Suddenly I don't look back at the near-collapse that my Jets had in 2022-23 with as much disdain, because holy crap this is a historic collapse by the Red Wings if they miss the playoffs. Yes, part of it is the East being insanely good this year, but when you're 1st in the conference after game #53 you would think that would mean that playoffs are a given.
more play without puck? patient team coverage in defense zone around net with one player out on top of puck? neutral zone forecheck and puck possession?
To really kick us while we are down. Buchelnikov was the only prospect in the wings pipeline with a legit top 6 scoring upside. He had the lowest floor but by far the highest ceiling.
Every knowledgeable wings fan is not concerned about the D corps. It's not even that bad. Our bottom 6 forwards are the leagues worst and it's not close.

Him and DeBrincat have carried that team. Their 5v5 line has 15 goals the last 15 games. No one else can do anything.
Why isn’t everyone talking about this? Have been living under a rock? Obviously not up on the Wings if you didn’t know that until now.

Before I press play, as a Wings fan since 1986, this is going to be painful to listen to. But since I only listen to LFR when the Leafs lose, I feel I need to take my medicine. At least when they sucked in the late 80's, we got to watch Stevie be awesome. Still holding out hope for the season, though. (started drinking early today)
