What role will search firm play in Leafs’ hiring of new head of hockey ops?

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger joins Gino Reda to discuss the details behind the Maple Leafs’ hiring of Neil Glasberg and PBI Sports to assist with their search for a new head of hockey operations, the direction the Predators and Devils could take in finding new general managers, the pressure for teams to accelerate hires for vacant GM positions and more.

  1. Whats with all these execs that have to hire someone else to do their job? Why does MLSE even need Pelley? Cant the board choose a firm to hire someone and not need Pelley as CEO. This corparatism is not going to be a benefit to the Leafs or any hockey franchise because the decisions are being made by people who dont know hockey.

  2. Toronto ownership is a joke…and have been for decades…non hockey people hiring a non hockey person to help hire the right person for the job.

  3. Patriot. Leafs will do a rapid retool, reconstitution, refabrication, reboot and contend next season.

  4. What a bunch of bullshit. This organization is becoming a dam circus 🎪 again. What the hell is school kid pelley even doing there.

  5. Sonny Mehta considered a front-runner for General Manager.

Sonny Mehta also represented by the very same search firm hired by MLSE.

But, apparently, there's no conflict of interest because… Reasons…

  6. They can call this a retool but in reality this is a rebuild even though they don't have much for drafting players but a trade or two for picks and one or couple free agents third fourth liners second third pair depth player role player or two next year trade deadline and two or three years by 2028-29 the leafs be different and Matthews and Nylander won't be a leaf forever what guarantee that first second liners free agents want to play for the leafs and what guarantee that free agents this year would come here

  7. The firm will recommend the same 10 people that have been flying around online and in comments for the last month. Good use of money. Also the fact that one of the oldest hockey organizations in the world can't figure this out on their own is damning on it's own.

Why does Dreger always look and talk like he has indigestion? It always looks like he is trying to hold in a hiccup

  8. Pelley and the whole of the Maple Leafs organization is a piss poor excuse of a bad joke. This is ridiculous!

  9. You dont need a firm to tell you the obvious moves to make

Prez is a wild card but common!
    Gm sunny mentha
    Coach bruce cassidy

  10. this is a validation process now not a search for a new ceo and gm we already know the names all that's left is for the firm to affirm pelley's decisions my guess is pelley had his own people working on this the day treliving was fired pelley's in control no way any outside firm is going to make decisions for him

  11. Good thing MLSE has Pelley & his infinite wisdom to hire a firm with their hockey wisdom. If wasting extra money to achieve less was rewarded the leafs would be a model franchise.

  12. What a bunch of bullshit! When you don’t know anything about your business, the bail out is to go to a consultant. This organization is a disaster!

  13. Execs hired to make decisions hire consultants to make their decisions so they can point the finger at those consultants later! Bullshit

  14. Shanahan and Dubas were the Leaf saviours but they ended up screwing the organization for at least another decade. A consultant hired isn’t going to fix anything or shrink that timeline.

  15. A rebuild a text time

You will acquire draft choices as time passes

    A rebuild is a rebuild

You start from nothing and build it up

Rogers has to sell their steak in the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise to someone that really knows what to do with it or they will lose their shirt

    They have been exposed now

Being exposed as the worst thing that can happen

    Pellegrino has been exposed

He exposed himself with that stupid press conference and now hiring a firm that recommends its own clients that it represents

Everyone should have a great confidence in Pelly and Rogers

    Buy your tickets

    Enjoy the game

    To hell with the leafs

    Just enjoy the game

    Keep calm
    Carry on

  16. The Leafs and Toronto hockey fans will never get a Stanley Cup because the media and fans know nothing about hockey. When Eliotte Friedman, Pierre Lebrun, both of whom have a profile like Alfred Hitchcock, and a washed up, grossly overweight O'Dog, and a never-was McLennan, Dreger, along with a parade of good-looking young women, are allowed to masquerade as 'hockey experts' , it's clear TO is bereft of any hockey IQ. Being a contender ain't that hard. Vegas went to the finals in their VERY FIRST YEAR with ONLY REJECTS (3rd and 4th liners) from other teams. In their 5TH YEAR of existence, they WON THE CUP. To this day they are still considered contenders. Billions of dollars spent by the Leafs since 1967 and they haven't even been to the finals once. WOW!

  17. Another slick play by Pelley- Retain a third party to find your executive for you. That way, if it goes bad, it wasn't you who recommended him.
RULE #47 MBA HANDBOOK- akways have an insulating protective layer between you and what goes wrong…. because it's obviously "their" fault that it went had. I put all my faith in "their" recommendation!

  18. I swear, Darren Dreger gives the most uninformative information you'll ever hear. I have no idea how this guy is still on the air. He contributes absolutely nothing, but he says so much nothing that it sounds like he's saying something, but every time he speaks it is literally nothing.

  19. Clueless CEO hires a executive finding company to do his job for him. Why is pelly in charge again? Whats he do there other than steal money? What is going on at MLSE ? Leafs are a joke.

  20. The Leafs should hire Brandon Pridham to be GM because he is already quite acquainted with the TMLs and he will probably continue to make the same kind of decisions that Brad Treliving has become very famous for.
