As a huge Devils fan this was 100% downfall & maybe you guys said this as I'm typing this while just starting the pod.
¹.Markstrom Trade (NJ been under a combined .900sv% EVERY Season except in '22-'23 & they tie the Franchise Best Season)
-Allen was an amazing trade & ext. btw… I'm strictly pointing out he never fixed the 1A Goalie position. You can't sign two 35+ goalies. Allens 5yr is also a specific signing strategy going lower AAV longer Term to take advantage of Salary Cap 📈 as the last 1-3yrs. Yes even if 3yrs. will not matter to Buyout it will be under 1M.
². Bailing on his own Plan after firing Lindy Ruff. He signed Keefe for full intent to 180° change his Teams strengths which is crazy when he finally got NJ out of a rebuild.
-This is huge reason why he had Nemec for trade. Nemec's #1 strength is activating becoming almost a FWD & Keefe had a super safe conservative defensive system.
-Keefe was a horrible HC choice & NJ is doing great after the Olympics when Keefe was basically forced to change his system & that is 100% fact on 2/3 he is asked about his system & says his system is NOT an issue AT ALL… 2 weeks later he literally has a system that is opposite of everything he ran for 1¾ Seasons.
³. Offing Palat too late – it needed to be done that Summer to have salary cap for Quinn or a Top 6 Fwd.
