TIRED OF THIS TEAM GETTING PPL FIRED AND I DONT THINK THEY CARE AT ALL WHEN MOST TIMES YOU SEE THEM LAUGHING ON THE BENCH
Never been a fan of Roy. Knowledgeable narcissist.
The team isnt that good. They have the fifth best goals against in the league, They are getting outshot on average. Schaeffer is having a calder season and sorokin is having a vezina season. DeBoer is a great hire.
They traded for Schenn who St Louis has been peddling for two years. They did dump the Drouin contract a prospect and a first and a third. Yikes.
They added Palat another player another team was desperate to dump. They got a thrid and a sixth and dumped Tsyplakov.
They added Soucy.
Palat and Schenn are terrible pick-ups.
Oh god you guys have deangelo. There are a lot of character issues with this roster.
The Islanders are 23rd in scoring.
The defense corps tells the story of this team. Besides the loss of Romanov the top guys who took them to the Conference Finals five years ago are hurting. The OTT last seconds loss where they were anticipating another OT was a big turning point in the season..
The hiring of Pete DeBoer appears to have LL written all over it!
The defensive numbers that were mentioned jive with them falling behind supbar teams by 2 and 3 nothing by early in the 2nd. That has happenned often. A Few times they came back to win but lately they can not do it. The Chicago loss was distrurbing. And how do you just give up 7 goals in the last half of the game against Pitt? Pitt is a playoff team but they are not the 84 Oilers.
I'm willing to move on from Barzal if we can get a 40+ goal score out of it.
Brady exploited the hang behind strategy first vs the Sens in March. After that it was all downhill for the Islanders.
I never liked Patrick Roy. His wicked temper always turned me off. Like in 1995 when he literally resigned LIVE on television as the Habs goaltender because he believed that the then coach, Mario Tremblay kept him in the game for too long. Yes, we were being clobbered, but I didn't think that keeping Roy in front of the net was such a bad decision. Because we win as a team and we lose as a team. So, the Habs traded him to the Colorado Avalanche and he won two Cups. Very good. But, when he became coach of the Avalanche, he got into an argument with the GM, Joe Sakic.
Again, he PUBLICLY resigned as coach, and he added that he "didn't want to work with a bunch of idiots like Joe Sakic. That was 20 years after he "resigned" as the Habs goaltender. He resigned from those teams pretty much the same way. Obviously, aging did not make him more mature. And when the Islanders hired him as coach, I knew it wouldn't end well. I don't think they fired him because of the end of season results. I believe he got fired because he showed his bad temper in team meetings that included the Islanders General Manager. Imagine your coach calling you, the GM, an idiot for the 100th time. I would have fired him.
Did Darche insist on playing Drouin and Palat?
The fact Roy benched Shabanov for months and the first game he puts him back in, Shabanov scores a goal and is one of your better players didn't help Roy's standing.
Deboer hasn't won anything lol . Good luck.
Just a thought. Deboer coaches a defensive system, Roy doesn't. A GM hires the system as much as the coach. I wouldn't be surprised if Darche 'kicked the tires' on Deboer last summer. Perhaps Deboer expressed interest but wasn't ready. That bought Roy a chance to steal the position by making his offense first system work. He didn't get it done, and Deboer was ready. Darche said a few things that indicated he wasn't comfortable with the stats Roy's system was generating.
The last PITT/Canes game were it for him. Cannot be held to under 10 shots for more than half the game.
Coach was never the problem. He had barely 2 years here. Darche gave him JAGs (just another guy). Never gave him talent besides Schaefer
Roy was never a good coach in th nhl.
I havent seen patric roy too much watching hockey. Is he ok? Every time i see him he looks like hes about to pass out and hes super red in the face. Probably nothing but even so.
Nail on the head with the transition game. We went from being a breakout of D zone/Carry into the O zone team to a dump and chase team
Analyst Anthony Martineau claims the Islanders didn't perform any miracles this season, etc., etc. But why doesn't he talk about the teams eliminated for the playoffs? They must be bad too, but no… He keeps bashing Roy, and yes, he did perform miracles because the Islanders weren't even supposed to make the playoffs. SOFT & LAME ADMINISTRATION. Darche is a fool, he's on a power trip, NO, his team wasn't falling apart like he claims. This team had no hope of making the playoffs, Roy got them there, period.
Roy is a 500+ % Isles Coach. He did this in spite of the following:
He had 2 GMs in 2.35 seasons
He was saddled with old bones with bad contracts from one GM then handed cement blocks by the New GM while treading water in the playoff pool. There was two season ending injuries by top players and lost a D man for the last couple games during this final stretch. To top it all off the core of this team has no heart. Not only can they not turn up for 60 mins they allowed an 18 year old to take over the team in 2 months.
Roy is not perfect but he is a good coach. Unfortunately the Isle organization didn’t treat a legend HOFer properly.
My question, is where and when did the heart go?? They been playing so well. Clean/quick passes, D coverage etc. The whole Iron Man mask was a plus, what game or where did it turn.
I'm sure the Leafs will be calling…among a half dozen other teams.
