Chris Pronger did the Blues proud.
Keenan not interested in selling. Doesn't seem to understand asset management, even as the coach. Hence why everyone good left as soon as possible.
“I’m Wayne Gretzky. Why the hell am I playing in St. Louis???”
In a perfect world Gretzky Wins the Stanley Cup in 93 and finishes his career in LA.
Gretzky had it, lost it. That still lives in my nightmares.
We need Chris leading the Leafs. He has all the intangibles.
Pronger says Wayne’s the most instrumental person he played with but cant recall a single peice of advice he was given or anything Wayne said to him. lol
For those wondering Pronger is lobbying to be the maple leafs general manager.
From no media hits to all of them in a month.
Should have fired Keenan, kept Shanahan, and re-signed Hull and Gretzky.
He wasn’t called “Iron Mike” Keenan for nothing. Got the Rangers their cup but he ruffled a lot of feathers in the NHL to put it mildly. I think that Cup run cost him his marriage too. Interesting guy. You don’t see that coaching style anymore, it doesn’t really work on the new generation of players.
Hope the Leafs hire him as our Prez
Keenan's got to be reviled in multiple cities (if you thought St. Louis didn't like him, just you wait til Canucks fans tell you about him lol)
The Oilers beat Keenan's Flyers in '85 & '87 in the Finals. That may've played a role in why Keenan tore into Wayne after the 8-1 loss vs Detroit in game #2. It was Keenan's golden opportunity to verbally assault Wayne.
There was a contract on the table that was all but signed that would have kept 99 with the Blues for the rest of his career. Keenan yanked it off the table after the Blues were eliminated. Gretzky signed with the Rangers. Keenan called Gretzky after the deal with struck with the NYR to try to get talks restarted to keep 99 in STL, but it was too late. Yet another way Keenan was bad for the Blues…..
Good for Keenan.
I got this guy's OHL card in my old collection, probably worth …
Keenan getting job after job in the NHL made you think he had to have dirt of some really powerful people. The guy is straight up hated.
The St. Louis Blues gave the Detroit Red Wings fits in the 1996 playoffs. People forget that. And it made the Colorado Avalanche more than ready to deal with the Red Wings later in the playoffs. Had the Red Wings not taken a full 7 games plus overtime to beat the Blues, maybe the Avalanche would not have won that Western Conference Final in 1996. Hard to say for sure, but the Red Wings were a different team when they played the Avalanche. I remember those playoffs very well. It was fun, but it was a lot like these days, actually, just weird outcomes from time to time.
For those of you who may not know.. Mike Keenan is regarded as the most hated coach of all time in the NHL
Maybe I’m reading him wrong here. But, does Pronger think he was more important to the team, than Brett Hull ? Saying all the attention was on him, until Gretzky arrived is delusional. I’ve been following the NHL a long time and yes Pronger was a tough guy and had a long career. But, he’s no Brett Hull.
