I would say then a trade is in the works for Knies. They feel they can get a lot for him. If not, who do they have where they can get trade value back. They need a lot if it's a retool . They have no draft pics. Nothing in their system . Knies will be traded then .

William Bystander wants no part of a rebuild. Meanwhile David Pastrnak who just happens to be paid the Same amount of money has Another 100 point season on the way for 4 in a row. As for a retool, why retool with the same inept overpaid Soft players? On the management side that team doesn’t need any retreads, but a new non bureaucratic set of eyes. You need a rebuild. What the hell is Rosie been sniffing? Now he thinks a retool is doable? What the hell is a retool if you can’t get rid of either Matthews or Nylander. Exactly who are you giving up to get a couple of good wingers and defensemen to do this? By offering what? Draft picks until 2033, Cowan and whatever decent prospects you could scrape up to really screw your future. You sure aren’t getting anything decent by trading Macelli, Domi, Carlo and Reilly. And if you’re depending on a 38 year old Tanev to drastically improve the defense next year then good luck. They should be happy if Tanev can play 40 games.

Pelly suggests the team needs to be DATA dependent. The DATA suggests if you lose the rest of the way in a good draft you will get a very good player. A forward or a defenceman from the top picks could be able to in step right away and play. This would now be a retool. No draft pick means a rebuild.
A retool is basically what every team does in the off season….

Nylander should have been traded years ago …. him giving ultimatums shows who he is …. noe get rid of him and try and get picks and or prospects for him. He is not the kind of player you can build a winning culture and winning team around. HE proves it every year.

The Leafs will miss the playoffs next season for this reason if no other…..Buffalo, Tampa, Montreal, Ottawa and Boston are all on the incline and will be solid clubs next year. Detroit will be in the thick of things. Florida may rebound. Toronto will probably be dead last just due to that reality alone. They need draft picks desperately and may as well rebuild as they cannot challenge all those above them.
