Is Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen TAKING OVER the Buffalo Sabres net?

The Buffalo Sabres salvaged their weekend with a comeback win over the Seattle Kraken, in part due to a very strong effort by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. That performance, combined with a couple poor Alex Lyon games, has Lindy Ruff looking to switch up the goalie rotation with UPL likely playing the Sabres’ next game against the Islanders. If Lyon starts stacking bad game after bad game, he could be in danger of falling out of the rotation for the playoffs.

Goaltending has come back down to Earth in the last couple weeks, but what about the rest of the Sabres game? There are some causes for concern, as the Sabres are taking more penalties and not killing penalties as successfully, but in large part they’re playing fine. There’s no need for panic, as in the last six games where the Sabres have lost three games, they’re still outplaying teams at even strength.

Plus, why the Sabres should play overtimes to go to the shootout. And an interesting NHL rule idea that could prevent teams from doing that in the future.

    Never understood the butthole tightening coaching staffs who shake things up like stopping rotating those three. Let’s all act that format wasn’t the extent of the longest run. Now playoffs we’ll change more bc it’s called the playoffs. Yeah I get it ride the hot hand. Haven’t done that all year tho. Best of luck to our guys hopefully they stick to their game.

    UPL is the better goalie in my opinion. Numbers are numbers…. Being clutch in big playoff moments is a different story. You use both in playoffs just like now. DONT change and “pick” 1 starter. Just keep rolling the rotashhe

    Ruff continues to force UPL down our throats. I believe it's a mistake. A mistake that may cost us a playoff series. Ask yourself has UPL ever gobbled pucks up consistently like Lyon can do. So Ruff punishes Lyon for one bad game. Ok fine. But Upl still give up rebounds and that's fine if our defense clears the slop away. But the playoffs are a different bird all together. Players get desperate for loose pucks the get determined and that creates chaos and Upl has always had to have his hand held and have the defense play structured and it's just not happening in the playoffs

    I absolutely love the power play overtime idea. I do think that would make things incredibly suspenseful.

    5 on three OT idea is creative and exciting .. but not something that would ever receive any kind of consideration

    I think the 3v3 OT is bad for Buffalo because of 1 thing. They play it like they have D men back. When they do get a rotation in the O zone, they always circle and the one guy that shoots the puck is the guy off to the side or in too deep to recover. The side shooter misses the goal and it rings around the boards and then its usually a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 the other way. Its the same song and dance every OT.

    As u said goaltending has regressed to average. It'll be interesting if UPL, and I hope not, plays poorly tonight. Lyon had a bad game vs R'wings but I like his positioning and rebound control.
