Look Illitch has the money why don’t the Wings kick Yzerman up to President of hockey operations. Hire a GM that has full control over personnel decisions and coaching hire. This way the Wings can leave a re-tool or re-build up to a new GM and coach. This gives Yzerman a place to remain which he deserves.
Larkin needs to go to SY, aka Matthew Stafford and say, I have given my all and it is not working out., Please trade me to a real contender
I don't have any social media so I have to vent here.. Yzerman is safe, McClellan should be safe (but the team doesn't hear him), and I think I am in the "Trade Larkin" camp right now.. Even if we somehow stumble our way into the loffs… I don't see a team with any fire or passion whatsoever .The only way to change this is for Steve to blow it all up..
This fan base is becoming absolutely toxic just like Leafs fans.
Soderblom showed signs of being this type of player, but the Wings didn't give him enough ice time.
Even as Blackhawks/Kane fan hate comedy watching you guys are dope at what you do. 🫡
It would be crazy to see you make playoffs 25 years straight or whatever it was than miss it 10-15 years straight (historic both ways😅).
Last year I saw a lack of leadership in the captain, after reading all of the comments I am convinced that “The Captain” aka Stevie Y needs to reset this team with a new captain!
Steve Yzerman has proven his credibility as a GM, the team is basically leaderless with Larkin, he lacks the respect from his team mates, you can feel it in every way this team plays! Totally inconsistent to say the very least!
Enough talk about Yzerman and his capabilities! He is a proven leader and winner in every way conceivable!
Larkin just doesn’t have the respect that a true captain has to have to keep his team on top.
Peace,
David ; D~
It’s sad so many of us are just hoping they make the playoffs to break the streak, knowing they won’t actually get through the 1st round. That’s the hope with this line up. Sad. That being said, Lakin needs to be demoted; he’s not the leader this team needs. Kane should’ve gotten it last season.
As painful as March was we are STILL only 2 points out of a playoff spot 😂
The organization needs to stop being afraid, then maybe the team will stop being afraid. Stop sitting on prospects afraid to make a deal. I love Simon’s potential, hes not Quinn Hughes. Many insiders said after the deadline Steve was against moving top prospects. Change the philosophy from the top down. Take some risks.
I have been waiting for someone to say it, but i can’t wait any longer. The opponent on a back to back is irrelevant bc the only team i see play poorly on a back to back is the wings.
All our scorers and skill guys are rotting in the minors. Watch Anaheim. They play their 18 to 21 scorers on the nhl team and look at their record … gauthier 38 goals., leo Carlson 26 goals. Benet senneke 25 goals( 18 years old). Bennete is a skinny runt and verbeek played him so we easily could have played Carter bear. Carter bear is better than 95 percent of our current roster. We just chose to baby him and as he’s not ready. Bull, you know who’s no nhl ready? Rasmussen , copp, Appleton etc. we refuse to play the best talent. We refuse to play our young prospects and we deserve to lose because of it. You don’t know until you play them. If Anaheim didn’t play gauthier or carlson or sennecke they wouldn’t be a playoff team but they gave them a chance and Anaheim is good as hell as we can’t score in a horehouse. We need this podcast to say this to the red wings beat writers. Truth is loud. Stats don’t lie.
I know I’d said this a lot but I’m going to repeat it. Copp and compher one goal the last 19 games each. Those two players don’t give a shit. They have gone 20 games without a goal all three seasons they have been here. How they get to stay in the lineup after 14 games without a goal is sickening and it’s an insult us to us fans that know the game of hockey. We literally have guys in GR better than 2/3 of our roster. There is zero accountability on this team. How many times has we called up and sent down Leonard? Look at how good his stats are in the ahl the last two seasons. He earned a long term look. Appleton, Rasmussen, copp, compher , Talbot, johanson and Bernard docker haven’t earned a dam
Roster spot. They give us ZERO SECONDARY SCORING and Talbot has lost us several games. Had he played like a normal backup. We would be at 93 points right now. Talbot lost 12 of 13 and he was horrible. The last 37 starts for Gibson he has a 2.00 goals against average and a .920. That’s second best to Andrei vasilevsky of Tampa.
Another indictment. We kept Rasmussen over mantha. Mantha now gets to play as a scorer and has 30 goals. Tyler bertuzzi 31 goals for Chicago. Rasmussen ? 6 goals. 3 off his ass 2 empty netters. How is Rasmussen in the lineup? Because let’s face it. This organization is stuck in the past all they talk about is defense. That philosophy doesn’t work in this current nhl. It’s a high scoring skill league and we age 1.5 lines and we have all grinders that can’t catch a pass.
I said it in other comment sections. Team bonding outing with military branch to learn "perseverance". Have Tangs regurgitate a playoff speech from Forsberg & Sakic and say it in the locker room, to wake this team up. The defense was terrible last game. Too many shots of 3 or 4 wings in the shot getting outworked by 1 or 2 guys is unacceptable.
What if, the Wings go on their 1st 7 game win streak!?
😅it’s not Todd fault. Bottom line just not enough talent. Could use Bertuzzi , Mantha .
I would guess that Larkin would only go to a contender so they would be delaying any possible run for a few years. He’s the only legit 2C they have and they need one or two more of him to get this team playing decent 5 on 5 hockey.
It's pretty simple, if the problem isn't the coach, then it's either the players, the GM, or both. No need to beat around the bush, the locker room roster needs a major shakeup or we need to move on from Stevie Y… it sucks either way, but if we are going to be a serious team, then we need serious changes
I've loved Todd as a coach. I'd be more willing to have him try to get the Wings into the playoffs more than any player on the roster. They need to have serious conversations about basically all the players outside of DeBrincat, Seider, and Gibson.
I'd have to agree with the Elmer Soderblom part, it is the absolute worst and makes me sick.. There has to be something bigger at play, it's like we knew all along he should have had the ability to be physical. Maybe these guys just don't want to play their best for Detroit for some reason, you've seen games where they are really good and then just look awful like they wish they were on the golf course now. For years we wanted Elmer to be physical bottom 6 and lay people out but buddy was an actual pylon and now he is completely different.. why?? It's more proof how it isn't on Yzerman, we have the potential but the players clearly do not want to live up to it.
Welp, we need a superstar and we could of had one in Quinn Hughes and he had term for rest of this year and all of next year..
They just don't got it :/. Need some dawgs in the toward group
I don't know how accurate Google's AI overview is, but it says that the last time this team won a game after being down multiple goals was January 18th. That's about two and a half months ago
Mentally the weakest team I've ever seen from the Red Wings organization
I put more blame on the team than any other area. Yes you could put the blame on Steve but the team has shown this season that they can win with the current team.
I believe going into this season that many fans didn’t expect much, yet the team showed that they could win.
The failure of the team falls on leaders on the ice, and that is very clear from watching the team play. Larkin has not been the leader that the fans expect when he was given the C.
At this point you almost need to look at moving on or finding a new captain and first line center.
Hey, don’t rag on my Alma mater. App state.
Hear me out. Larkin and goalie prospect to Oilers for Draisaitl. Oilers save 6mil on cap, we get rid of Larkin. Oilers need a goalie prospect. Something to work on and think about.
Thats 2 games in a row, that i had to watch and it was painful. Then to look up the standings before the next game and realise that they didnt lost ground. Will someone please tell me its time that i can give up on this team and not have to watch them?
I feel like the Wings need more vibes in the room, just my opinion. Look at a team like San Jose for example, their roster sucks on paper yet they’re competing for a playoff spot (yes I know the West is weak, but still) due to the great vibes in the team. How many times do you hear on broadcasts they talk about how stressed and quiet the Wings bench is? Maybe an injection of youth? The vibes were there at the start of the year when ASP, MBN, and Finnie made the team, even Danielson. And then management sends those guys down and it killed the group. Yes I know prospects won’t make an immediate impact but realistically how much worse are these guys from the bottom 6 we have now?
Winning DOES NOT cure all. This team won an away game against Buffalo, and forgot how to play hockey for the first 55 minutes of a game the very next night.
Who do we think Todd's comment's are calling out when he says the guys that have been here the longest are the ones that need to change? We didn't reacquire Perron coincidentally. The front office and the coaching staff can acknowledge there's an issue with leadership in the room, but the moment anyone is critical of Larkin it's just the internet being angry?
Just because you can lead without a letter, does not mean that the letter is irrelevant. Some players need to be prodded into that leadership role. Some players get prodded into leadership roles that they don't belong in and wearing a letter shields them from accountability.
I'd also love to see all these times that Team USA is praising Larkin's on ice leadership. I've watched dozens of hours of post-olympic hockey content, interviews, etc and never once have I heard someone say anything about Larkin on the bench. Locker room? Johnny Gaudreau stuff? Practice? Absolutely. In game? Not once.
This team has shuffled almost the entire bottom 6 forwards and bottom 4 defenseman, both goaltenders, and added a handful of youngsters, and the issue of effort down the stretch has never changed. Larkin's message has either missed all of them, or it's the message that's not working.
There's a dozen smoking guns pointing at the source of the problem, and we're doing gymnastics trying to come up with any other explanation.
Anyone who thinks McLellan should be fired is a moron.
Im not sure what more he could do. Most high value players reject the trades or choose to sign elsewhere. This roster is going to be the youth movement he built in the next 2 years and that to me is end of the runway. Bear 1 or 2 years into nhl career ish timeline.
Perspective. Axel pelikka has 7 goals and was sent down to ahl 2 weeks ago and he’s a rookie dman. Yet copp has 9 goals. And compher has 10 goals. Both have 1 goal last 19 games. So a rookie dman has almost as many goals as our second line center but he gets sent down while zero accountability for copp and compher… Copp and compher should be in the press box or sent down to gr
I live in the UK I will not be staying up to watch anymore games. Unless it's a playoff game. Then I will stay up and watch them get beat down.
Why are you guys pronouncing 'Detroit' like dumbass elliott friedman does, as in 'De-troyit'? 'DEE-Troyt', aren't you Michiganders??
Wings are the Colorado Rockies of the NHL.
Sadly i think the main person to blame is the coach. The team is never prepared to start in time and has reverted to the same bad habits they had under Lalonde.
the wings have no identity. are they a tough team? are they going to lock you down on defense? are they going to fly by you? are they going to outscore you? what do they hang their hat on? what do they do well, other than miss the playoffs every year?
It's not over until we're officially eliminated. Doomers can doom, but I'm not wishing failure on this team. Cat, Kane, and Seider are keeping me going. Hit 40, Alex!
Yzerman needs to go
is this team trying to get McLellan fired ? maybe they hate the dump and chase offense ?
Mentally and physically the softest team in the league.
Just because Yzerman has unlimited runway doesn't make conversations about his job pointless. Most people acknowledge it
Has he done enough to deserve being brought up? The national/international media is now putting a microscope on the Wings and calls are getting louder. It's not useless or pointless if it becomes blatantly obvious to Chris Illitch it's not working
National media is not talking about Larkin’s leadership, or Raymond, or Finnie. Even the talk about Seider has quieted down with his diminished play.
Be careful guy, the losers on Red Wings Reddit are gonna start calling you doomers. We could go 0-82 and those dorks would tell us that Sebastian Cossa is going to save our franchise. So delusional.
Stop crapping on about yzerman. The team clearly hasn’t got the mental fortitude it takes to be winners. And I honestly don’t believe Todd is too much the reasoning. Look at the flyers game played like shit For 90% of it and then one goal off tying it in about 10 minutes. Where the fuck was that effort in the first. And second periods. Could yzerman do better yes ofcourse. But the team is getting better year on year. And it’s partially upto the players to go out and win.
Now I know how Lions fans feel
I would take the overpay on some guys that produce secondary scoring than paying market value for trash. Offense top to bottom needs a major shake up. Top end and bottom six talent are needed. Other teams either draft and develop or sign bottom six guys that actually help on offense. We continually don’t. I think of guys like Acciari, Brazeau, and others I never heard of but they show up against us. We could use more offensively gifted instead of defensively responsible or 200 foot player in our draft pick scouting reports. Continual lack of finishing for far too long. Other teams do not have as much trouble in the offensive zone generating 5 on 5 scoring. It has been a huge issue for too long. My patience is running thin on these historical issues which haven’t been addressed. Goalie – good now. Coach – seems solid. Defense – may be shored up with Falk/ At least is workable. Offense – 5 on 5 is a disaster. No true 2C, no other finishing winger. Bottom 6 needs 4 players gone IMO. I am trying to hang my hat on a shorter to do list and really focus on upgrading the offense from the forward group.
Boston lost and they were able to get in
The last season of Datsyuk in Detroit was the last time they made the playoffs
I take keeping Todd over Larkin if it comes down to it. The coach isn't able to make players who don't care, actively care.
