No doubt they need faulk. They also need so many other things yet. That's the problem.

I don't think it was a mistake trading for him, but it was a HUGE mistake not to at least top 5 protect the first round pick. I thought that was a huge fumble by Yzerman at the time, and that hasn't changed.
Brian seems a little desperate to justify the Faulk deal. I think we needed to gain a higher level talent in parting with a first rounder. Faulk is a decent player— but likely not a difference maker
The Faulk trade will be Yzerman’s worst move if that pick wins the lottery. Otherwise I don’t care but you know that pick will win the lottery if we miss the playoffs.
They should have gotten Dobson in FA first, and then added Faulk. Faulk was a solid add by itself, but would've been a great add with Dobson. And yes, I would've been willing to give up 2-3 prospects for Dobson

Surprised by the great resistance to potentially trading Larkin. The Wings have real limitations , asset wise, in terms of making meaningful & significant change & improvement. Goaltending assets are another possibility. They’ve won nothing with Larkin in a decade ! It really needs to be on the table as the trajectory of this seven year rebuild has stalled. The Wings can’t make more changes on the fringes and expect better results.
We need a whole 1st line, LF, C, RF.

The trade was horrible move! Total ripoff! The man is on the tail end of his average career. I know that his numbers might have looked good but only because the team really is this bad. Faulk is Gustafson 2.0. If you bring Yzerman with you to car lot, you're paying sticker price or more. It's a bad deal. Own it!
Saying that Faulk is better than ASP is ridiculous (and don't point to what he did elsewhere). Look at ASP's points and offensive contributions on the PP. Not to dwell on the obvious but the Wings cannot score goals. What has happened to the Team's PP numbers since ASP's absence? What has been the team trajectory?
There's been a chain of piss poor decisions and this is just one more.

The problem wasn't the Falk trade it was the fact that he didn't get a 2C or first line winger or anybody for the third and fourth lines that would make a difference perron was not a difference maker!
If we don't make the playoffs they should trade Larkin just so he could have a chance to win a cup like Stafford did with the super bowl
This is one of your better episodes. Good realistic analysis. Fix the bottom 6 and add a 4D and 5D. AND it was nice hearing a realistic view on Danielson, ASP etc. It was crazy how people were projecting Danielson as a 1C. If a player is only a point per game player in junior he's not magically going to be better than that in the NHL.
I don't think Wings fans realize how good Larkin really is. Just look at how he performs with Team USA when he's surrounded with top notch talent
Perron has zero points in 8 games. He's been worse.
Whether the Wings back into the playoffs or miss it again, they need to make some serious changes in the off season. They are woeful five on five and need to add scoring depth and grit.
Detroits rebuilt is a failure. Yzermans trades reek’s of desperation. His drafting outside of the top 5 pics didn’t bring any needle movers in the organization. The top end talent on this team is limited and there is no savior coming. The max this build can achieve is to be a fringe playoff team. There won’t be any cups.
St. Louis is playing a lot better after trading Faulk. Boston only added Lucas Reichel for a 4th, Montreal didn’t do anything and are on a heather. Ottawas defence evaporated and still gain ground on Detroit after the TDL.
if Detroit was in the Pacific division, we'd practically (1 pt) be in First 1st place right now . Keep that in mind when complaining about Faulk and Yzerman. . . Soderblom is killing it for Pittsburgh right now.. scoring goals and fighting dudes. Should have protected the 1st pick to st.louis blues. Yzerman might actually trade for another 1st round pick this July if we miss the playoffs . I really wish Larkin hadn't gone to the Olympics.. his winning a gold really cost us getting wins into the playoffs. I stand next to that. His knee prob wouldbe been fine with 3 weeks rest rather than the Olympics. Seider even looks spent and tired thanks to all that play.
Could q.hughes still sign with Detroit a year from July .. prob not. But can Steve yzerman still do a lot this summer ? Yes. We have so many prospects to trade who are in Grand rapids and not getting a chance… Lombardi and mazur and shine a bunch more.
Brian and Scotty are just getting dramatic (27 year old and 30 year old behavior) by talking about trading Larkin… Trading the team and the farm for a rebuild. Detroit s in a good place with Debrincat, Larkin, seider , Raymond and hopefully Kane staying. Gibson Kasper Finnie look fine. Even Danielson and Bear look promising. ASP and both Johansen players are developing well too. Don't forget that we traded hronek for asp's pick … Because we didn't wanna pay to sign him or else he didn't wanna stay.if we let all those prospects go.. they could turn into .. hronek mantha bertuzzi and hronek cases. We should keep players as long as they can stay. Stay with this core and see what happens next year. 90 points could happen again and end up being 2nd in the Atlantic… Or it could be outside the wild card. this is all logic based on us missing the playoffs. If we just on the inside looking good In 3rd… You wouldn't be getting so dramatic about selling the farm. It's how fans just think.. dramatically. Yzerman is more professional and level headed than that. He's not gonna fire Stevie Y. whether or not you're wanting that as a fan , illitch is Not gonna fire him , especially if you're paying attention to the reality of this organization. Hope we sneak into the playoffs here but we'll get swept in the first round . We need mclelland to get these guys to Stick to their systems in a lot more practices
Trading for Faulk was not the problem, waiting so long to get him and not get a 2C before the deadline was the problem. We all knew what was needed and Y-man did not finish his task. Perron does not fit our need now anymore than he did when he went to the Sens. Y-man got fleeced in both deals. IMHO
I wish we had made the playoffs only to see if or if not Kane could have lit it up in playoff hockey . Him and dCat are still great together.. our best duo
Faulk is not an upgrade over ASP. They didn't buy at the trade deadline, they sold!
Doug Armstrong has been fleecing teams for a while now. Yzerman isn’t special, unfortunately.
It is frustrating he didn’t want to spend for Quinn Hughes but did for Faulk after the market dried up.
No issues with the trades at the deadline. My issue STILL is finding a way to NOT bring Quinn Hughes to Detroit. Especially because this is where he wanted to be. How often does that happen? Still gotta laugh at Quinn calling out Yzerman for having no balls. He was right. I think his brothers would have eventually found their way here, near home, for an original 6.
I don't see it as buyers remorse, if anything I see it as by regret for not actually getting more offensive forwards as well. I feel that getting Justin Faulk was a good pickup, yes we did overpay for him a little bit I get the reasoning, but Steve should have also gotten offensive help if you did we wouldn't have fallen so bad when we lost Dylan. Also there are several players that I think we need to get rid of after this season!!!
Michael Rasmussen, J.T. Compher, Mason Appleton, James van Riemsdyk, Travis Hamonic ALL NEED TO GO!! I also think possibly Andrew Copp. David Perron was a move that I feel made no sense, and i say at least give Marco Kasper and Emmitt Finnie one more year. I think a great 4th line would be Kasper, Finnie and Mazur! And then if it works out better offensively with them, try moving them all to the 3rd line instead.
I feel that Kane should stay on maybe the 3rd line for another year at least but it is definitely debatable. This team " in theory " needs a TRUE 3 lines! And by that, I mean, two 30/40 goal scorers and playmaker on 1st 2 lines and one or two 20/30 goal scorers/ 2-way players and a decent center on the 3rd line and then the 4th line needs to be something similar to the grind line of old but not necessarily as good. That is what this team needs to win cups again in my opinion. And as always great show guys and stay frosty and happy holiday if i don't comment before then lol.

They need to be buyers during the offseason and use up that cap space. If not, then you know that ownership won’t invest in the team and there is no hope for being a winning franchise.
The trade market return was high this year. I'm ok with the trade. We have a culture problem. No heart no grit no urgency. We need a revamp of this team. Yzerman needs to build a playoff team. Not a regular season team. There's a difference. You are seeing a team that can't compete with playoff teams. #LGRW
The answer is simple: could they have drafted someone who could have stepped into Faulk's role right awwy? No!
If we only traded for Perron and were in the same boat everyone would be furious. While Faulk hasn't made a big scoresheet impact our defense is definitely improved. Hopefully McLellan can right the ship for more than one game.

He got understand those centers that we were after dictate to where they wanted to go I mean look look at them. None of them wanted to go anywhere look at Tom Wilson with the with Montreal. He was traded to the ducks. He didn’t even know it do you think he went nope nope he turned it down and he’s right back with the Washington so that you know it’s not as easy as everybody thinks it i we wanted Stamkos a scorer but he wanna come you gotta realize when you when you try to get these guys that have the note dictate to where they wanna go. They want to go to a sure thing they’re not gonna roll the dice and say OK. Well, you know they got a chance no, they want a sure thing. I just sent her in New York. He didn’t budge you could’ve gave. You could’ve gave half the team away from here for him and he still wouldn’t have showed up in DETROIT same with the center in St. Louis those guys were going anywhere well I hope all my spelling is correct cause I’m not gonna go back and redo it. That’s my two cents and I’m sticking to it.
