  1. The short answer?

The Bruins aren't very likely to go far in the post season

The "why" will provide the longer version of the answer

The Boston Bruins advanced 5×5 stats say that they've been piss poor defensively all season

Their Penalty Killing unit has also been piss poor all year as well

And although they've scored a fair amount of 5×5 goals…

They've been incredibly lucky in doing so because the Bruins are a bottom 5 NHL team in terms of generating quality 5×5 shots & scoring chances

Few team in the NHLs has a wider gap between actual 5×5 goals scored & their Expected 5×5 goal scored numbers

The Bruins are 28th in Expected Goal Differential

The Bruins are 2nd in Goals For Above Expected

That's called being incredibly lucky in terms of their 5×5 offense

No NHL team can realistically rely on luck in the post season to carry their offense

    What's real with Boston?

All hard stats, advanced stats & the eyeball test say that Boston is a bad defensive team that stinks on the Penalty Kill

That the have an above average powerplay (although it's currently struggling)

That they've been more lucky then good at 5×5 offensively

And that Jeremy Swayman has had a Top 3 goalie performance this year & he 100% deserves Vezina votes

    Boston Bruin's 5×5 STATS:

    -xGF: 24th

    -High Danger Shots For: 27th

    -Medium Danger Shots For: 26th

    -xGA: 30th

    -High Danger Chances Against: 27th

    -High Danger Shots Against: 29th

    -Medium Danger Shots Against: 28th

    OTHER BRUINS STATS:

    -27th Penalty Killing Unit

-#1 NHL team in PIMs taken

There is not a rationale hockey fan on planet earth that could look at those stats and honestly believe that the Boston Bruins are going to go very far in the post season

    Crap defensively

    Crap on the PK

Average & super lucky 5×5 offense

Powerplay has gone south post Olympics

.500 or below road team all season

Jeremy Swayman is easily responsible for 7-10 wins this year for Boston, probably more

Just call it 7 (14 points) & then take those 14 points from their current total of 94 points

That'd give the Bruins only 80 points, they'd already be out of it & Sweeney, Neely & Sturm would already be fearing for their jobs

Jeremy Swayman has single handedly saved all their bacons & the Bruins regular season this year in the process

Surprisingly fun & entertaining regular season by the Boston Bruins

And it sure as though seems like there's a lot to look forward to in future years

However, unless Jeremy Swayman pulls a Tim Thomas and steals every playoff series….

The Bruins would be lucky to get out of the first round

    The Bruins aren't bad

They're just average offensively, piss poor defensively & they have a Top 3 NHL goalie

I'm not sure that team profile screams Stanley Cup winner
