  1. I will apologize in advance for not knowing the names of these 2 people. She asks the very legitimate question about whether players want to come to Calgary. He answers dismissively, saying maybe 1 or 2 guys. BULLSHIRT. He then goes on to talk about young players who are barely even in the system as established NHL players who play top minutes in Calgary – not because they have the reputation or have necessarily earned it, there really just aren’t a lot of options in the roster other than the young and unproven talent. This GIVES them that opportunity to prove themselves, and a lot of these kids have proven themselves….to possibly have a future if they continue to develop.
Instead of avoiding the reality of the question entirely and redirecting to the young kids, name talented free agents or ANYONE who tried to get a deal to come to Calgary. Just over the last couple years alone off the top of my head i can think of a dozen players who moved to teams that aren’t Calgary. Did Conroy not go after them? Did we flat out refuse to entertain or match an offer to get one of these players? We don’t know, but we do know that Stamkos, Guentzel, Marchessault, Montour, Terasenko, Terraveinan, Debrusk, etc. I suspect that a lot of established NHLers don’t want to take a risk on Calgary management’s lack of willingness to win at all cost, and instead gamble on reclamation projects and draft picks outside of the top 10-20. Kadri was an exception to this trend imo, and he was just the right player at the wrong time for Calgary. The rest of the league watched Naz play his ass off to no avail, and you still think that the flames are a hot destination? Calgary needs a few elite prospects or a couple top 1/2 picks in order to attract stars.

  2. Ryan is right. There is opportunity in Calgary. How they handle the vets now is how these players will want to stay moving on.

  3. Yes I do think players want to play here, crazy what happens when you build a core of a bunch of good young players and don't build off of handing out long term contracts to free agents and overpay them. Parekh and Gridin have a actual passion to play here and it's clear.
