I don’t see how it changes anything. The draft picks are gone, baby, gone. The season tickets are all sold. The ownership has no financial incentive to change anything beyond window dressing. Whoever they bring in is doomed to fail initially because the cupboard is bare. Remember the optimism that surrounded the arrival of Ken Dryden, Brendan Shanahan, or Brian Burke etc. This market grinds up anyone naive enough to get embroiled in the hot mess that is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Find his credible replacement before seasons end so he can make moves for the draft, draft day, get other teams used to it and be able to talk to players and get a feeling as to how things are and what needs to be done in order to get the best camp possible and have room to improve! Maybe get coaching staff in order and build something based on this season of bad luck, put the right pieces together and try to get back to the playoffs

The Leafs don’t have the Berube type players. He wants 200 foot players who hit, grind, go into the corners, the boards, gets 50/50 pucks, forecheck, backcheck , don’t hang at the blue line for breakouts. The Leafs are too soft to play this way. And, you have to stand up for your teammates.
