This is when Bettman expands the league to Houston and Atlanta and they hire Cassidy and DeBoer.
Utah should hire Cassidy. They won't because they will probably sneak into the playoffs. I think Andre Tourigny can only take them so far.

Only 1 of 32 teams can win the Cup any season. The other 31 go home unsatisfied/ sad.
In a supporter’s life, that means on avg your team should win 2-3 times I. Your life (the Leafs are overdue).
It is nuts to fire a top coach for a good team because for 1 season. They have lost a few close games. It’s not the way to stay good over time

FWIW Torts knows Karlsson well from Columbus, before the expansion draft. At the time, Alex Wennberg was seen as the better CBJ prospect (they're both Swedes). But Torts seemed to like Wild Bill better and trusted him defensively, which on a Torts-coached team is a big deal. The FO protecting Wennberg over Bill in the VGK expansion draft ended up hurting Columbus.
As a VGK fan I know the rest of the fans hate us but yeah this sums up my shock. Ken Boehlke of SinBinVegas also uploaded a pretty long tirade worth a listen. It’s hard to be a fan of a team with such ruthless management but they did bring home the Cup in ‘23 so while I wouldn’t want to work there I do have to give them the benefit of the doubt. This will end up looking brilliant and or a complete disaster there is really no in between
Cassidy to the Oilers was my first thought when I saw the news, partly because you guys talked about a late season Knoblauch firing recently. The funniest outcome possible here is Cassidy-led Oilers take down Vegas in round 1.
Why did Torts get hired? He is an asshole. Always has been. Hired because the NHL is just a boys' club. Keep rotating everyone around – giving them jobs no matter how much of a douchebag they are. Not enough talent to go around, so the worst ones keep finding a way to get a paycheque.
Also Torts coming back to coach Carter Hart??? should be interesting…

Elliot Fridman is saying he got fired because he's fighting with players. I guess assistant coaches quit on him and players don't like him because he's actually a hard ass. So I'm abit worried people are seeing a shiny object and thinking we should get him when it might be Babcock 2.0

The NHL has created a madhouse of an institution. Idiots; may as well SAVE the salarie $$$$ on any coaches, and let the spoiled brats do what they want anyway.
I wonder if they moved on from him because if they get in the playoffs and go deep. How do you fire him after that? Easier to move on if they're struggling.
OTOH I understand Torts is only there to end of this season.
So … there is still hope he could be signed by the Leafs.
