“It doesn’t f–king connect.”

A caller on TLN After Dark isn’t happy with the clear disconnect between Berube, Treliving, and the players

  1. I can only imagine the conversations Berube has with his old teammates from 1980s about these purse carrying skirt wearing betas he has playing for him😂

  2. They won't win the cup with Tavares on the roster.
Hes a good player but too integrated into the identity of the team.

    Leafs
    Pro: face off %
    Decent GFG
    good stick battles

    Cons
    Slow,
    Not physical
Won't engage after whistle or stand up for teammates
Defence is OK untill it doesn't exist

JT's game checks all those categories,

When they signed him for 7x 11 they made him the identity of the team, maybe not the face but with him here this team will continue to follow that pattern hes been here too long to expect bringing in new players will overwrite his presence and character in the room.

No need for ifs and buts, just need to prepare for a rebuild at the end of his contract

  3. Matthews and Nylander would be the softest players on the Toronto Sceptres, let alone the Leafs.

  4. The issue is not Treliving or Berube, getting rid of Matthews Nylander and Reilly and replacing them with some grit and heart would be a good direction to go in. Too much money for too soft of players.

  5. Samurai warriors wore garments like the hakama—a pleated robe that might look feminine by today’s standards, but to them it was part of a warrior’s identity. Throughout history, many fighting cultures wore clothing that wouldn’t be seen as traditionally masculine today, yet their toughness was never in question.

The Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t comparable to that. It’s not about appearance—it’s about what’s inside. They don’t seem to have the mindset or edge needed to play the game a certain way. Put them in a different environment, surrounded by tougher, like-minded players, and maybe they’d thrive—but as it stands, that element just isn’t there.

  6. The players seem more concerned about their fashion look during the walk-in rather than the game.
