I would hope true Habs fans watched at least the training camps and if they did they would LOVE Protz.I liked him a lot he hustles he bangs he has size and he skates well.Now does he have upside to become a decent third line scorer well NOBODY scores on the third line Gallagher got 21 last year which is seldom ever done by a third liner typically they get around 30 pts or less.Protz would likely be a 4th line player so nobody should expect him to get more than 20 pts and imo he could get that.
The most important thing for a 3rd or 4th liner is to be a pain in the other teams butt and to NOT lose games give your top lines a chance to win the games.
If protz needs 1-2 years in Laval, Florian maybe up next season as well. Hage, Pickford, Beck, Zharovsky and Reinbacher are all up and coming as well. Lots to look forward to

Smelling something Big this summer, can't have sooooooo many rookies when Habs have entered their window, no?
The problem is that we have a head coach who won 2 or 3 Lady Byng Trophies and clearly doesn't like the kind of players that are needed in the playoffs. It won't matter whether the guy's name is Xhekaj or Protz, St. Louis doesn't like that kind of hockey and to be honest, neither do I. But until something changes, those kinds of guys are clearly necessary in the post season. Championship teams from this very organization always had those guys big, physical players. Not all were fighters btw, even a guy like Chris Nilan; he was a much better player than people remember. Before this team makes a deep run, one of two things has to change. Either St. Louis has to change his thinking and his defensive tactics OR we need a new head coach who can guide the group to the next stage.

What is the point in signing a player that Marty won't play. He hates rough and tumble players. 😢
If Habs management move on from Arber before he gets a chance to play with his brother Florian in a series of games to see what they can do they are fools
I would say Struble, Xhekaj and Guhle are all at risk.
I can see those 3 plus Carrier, replaced by Engstrom, Protz and Reinbacher.
I mean:
Matheson Dobson
Hutson Reinbacher
Protz Engstrom
And add in Pickford

With all these young defenseman, who comes out of the lineup? Carriere! I doubt it.
On surface, seems like a great signing but the current system does not favor physicality on the back end or delivering hits to forwards entering the Habs zone. Unless that changes he will not be anymore effective than Arber is right now. Arber is a stud and would dominate on the back end of many teams. Protz is cut from the same cloth. Acquiring players and not permitting them to play to who they are is not effective. If these type players don't fit your style of play trade them and regret it later 😢
His style of play remembers the one of Scott Steven’s.
Think expansion is coming, so I think we will lose players.

Pickford in laval for 2 years in a row then you will have a good idea of his real value and possible impact in the NHL. So no hurry in his case. A lot can happen in 2 years in the nhl
MTL needs to acquire Mathieu Olivier from colombus this summer. Easier said than done i know but that would fill a need for sure. Until Florian and Thorpe are ready
You really only need one of Struble, Xhekaj, Engstrom, or Protz to work out.
Someone who can compliment Reinbacher is probably the end goal right?
Protz sounds like the type of defenceman we really need.
