Dan, the real problem is that you are trying to isolate one enemy when this thing is breaking down across the whole team. A couple of weeks ago, everything was supposedly fine. Now that the playoffs are starting to slip away, the blame game is on, and the goalie is always the easiest target.
When your team goes half a period without a shot on goal, the other side gets to tee off on your goalie. When the power play gets a full four minutes and produces nothing, that matters too. When coverage breaks down and the team cannot sustain pressure, that is not a one-man problem in net. That is the whole group failing in different areas at once.
And Skinner should not be treated like a panic button. He needs five or six games in a row, the net to himself, and a chance to build rhythm. That is how goalies settle in and find their game. Constantly rotating the crease only makes everything worse.
Skinner has already taken a team to the Final twice. Twice. At some point that has to matter more than the urge to blame the easiest guy on the ice.
two seasons in one. before the olympics and after.
What’s really frustrating is, practically every game in the Eastern Conference ends-up in Overtime.
If we still had Jarry we wouldn't be in this mess! (just kidding, I'm glad he's long gone)
