OVERPAY?: Did the New York Islanders WASTE Assets on Ondrej Palat, Carson Soucy, and Brayden Schenn?

The New York Islanders gamble on late-season acquisitions—will Ondrej Palat, Carson Soucy, and Brayden Schenn provide the boost needed for a playoff push, or are these moves too little, too late? Gil Martin unpacks the team’s recent additions, their underwhelming point production, and whether their grit and leadership can offset aging contracts and declining offensive output.

Martin explores Patrick Roy’s relentless line juggling, questioning if constant shifts undermine consistency as the Islanders face a must-win stretch. The podcast spotlights chemistry issues among the top six forwards, defensive vulnerabilities after Alexander Romanov’s injury, and the looming showdown against the Dallas Stars. Key stats, roster strategy, and the legacy of former center Mike Pecca shape a compelling look at the Islanders’ playoff prospects. Can Roy find the right formula in time, or will inconsistency cost the team their shot at the Stanley Cup?

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. -at this point those old guys brought in haven't made a difference so YES those moves were a waste of assets. yes it rid isles of unproductive 29 yet isles went from a playoff spot to flailing like a fish out of water. old guy moves didn't make isles better.
-darche got playoff fever blinded by the early season smoke and mirrors success when he should have gone the other way. dump 27, 44 for futures and kept that second first.
-and d. nelson was only ranked 94th on thn top prospects not in the nhl list. isles still need more good young talent/picks, not chasing old guys like 10 good for blows in '19 run or 81 good for tb's two cup runs 5-6 years ago. and 4? just put a cone out there with a 4 on in-same thing. two firsts could have been kept or moved around at the draft. at least isles first rd. pick could be in klepov range. skilled scorer who pulled off rare led ohl in scoring as a rookie. something mcd, stamkos, or pj boy never did. like gil said only 13, 14 are true top 6 fwds. more are needed.

  2. How many more games does palat go without scoring a goal before benching or he get the drioun treatment? Soucy been a negative on this team since acquisition

  3. The return on Dobson trade was good. Not overpaying Dobson was good. 3 other trades I dont like, especially the Schenn deal. 1 of the trades hurt cap at least next year and Schenn beyond. Also, he brings in guys to make team harder to play against & team room something but rooms seems to overwhelm & take control of the new leaders brought in. Soucy I thought would be more physical.

  4. the first 2 deals were not that bad. small deals. But the Scheen deal will hurt them with the cap right now and down the road. I think they got too in love with having too make the playoffs and they kind of paniced a bit.
