  1. That 5v5 hockey is laughably bad with these Wings. This team needs to get significantly better with and/or without Larkin. They lack anyone that can take over a game.

  2. faith? This team was 4-5-1 in their last 10. 9-9-2 in their last twenty BEFORE Larkin was injured. Does that scream playoff team to you? It sure as hell doesn't instill any confidence in me. This team is done. For years, this team is done. Larkin is getting older, Cat is gonna leave once his 4 years are up, Our defensive prospects in Grand Rapids are dismal, and we have no top 6 talents among our forwards. Baer and MBN these are not top line players.

Like they said Danielson is probably going to be a good NHLer, the NHL for sure needs 3rd and 4th line centers like Copp and Compher.

  3. Time to move on from Yzerman. This patience bullshit with no big moves and the same results year after year is dillusional. No progress. No playoffs 3 years in a row means no progress and Yzerman aint the guy with a plan.

  4. I was watching Ben Chariot’s “day in the life” thing and it was pretty apparent that he didn’t think Detroit was going to be good place to live and play. He gave it a chance after is 2nd contract expired, and it completely changed his mind. It’s pretty clear that he’s not unique, hence our focus on Michigan natives. As sad and undeserved as it is, the Detroit stigma still exists, and there’s a decent chance most players don’t want to come here based solely on that. Our only chance at competing in FA markets is by making the playoffs and demonstrating that we have high end core talent. That said, Yzerman has still put together a team that has consistent damning flaws that directly contribute to yearly slumps. Until those issues are addressed this team will not compete in the playoffs or for top end FA talent.

  5. The guy in the hat reminds me of Ken holland whenever he says stars or ya gotta have stars … Holland would say this. He is correct btw

  6. This team's garbage. No Elite talent. Nothing in the system that's going to move the needle. His team needs to do another rebuild

  7. Hes correct about the lack of stardom. Point to any elite team in the NHL and you can name 1 or 2 guys who would be a 1C on any NHL team.

Our best players are Seider (Who is coming along, and will be a 1D pairing on any team level player, but he still makes lots of young mistakes) and Larkin (who would be an above average 2C on basically 90% of NHL rosters.

    We don't have "the guy".

    Kuch
    Panarin
    Matthews
    Werenski
    McKinnon
    Makar
    Aho
    McDavid
    Drais
    Celebrini
    Pasta
    Suzuki
    Kaprizov
    Thompson
    Etc…

All these guys are "stars". Larkin is a supporting cast member who was made the team's star because we haven't drafted a 1st overall in 10 years of sucking, and havent offered any prospects for anyone in a trade.

  8. Trade everyone with any value for draft picks and start over. Ken Holland kept this stupid playoff streak alive and now what if we do not make the playoffs for the same time frame

  9. McLellan is an awful coach and I never understood how the Red Wings thought he was their guy..I honestly got no clue how he keeps getting jobs at this point..historically his teams always fizzle out..Yzerman should fire him now this very second because he has clearly lost that dressing room and the Red Wings are still alive..they are right there and a coaching change would also tell you Yzerman has a pulse also

  10. The only time debrincat and kane should be on the ice at the same time is the powerplay. 2 undersized wings should never be on the same line together. Stick kane with perron and compher to jolt some depth offense

  11. Our Cats won the Cup because of Bill Zito, our GM has balls and will actually make bold moves to try and make the team better. I'm not saying you have to be exactly like him and make a Matthew Tkachuk level of trade, but I can't think of someone more opposite of that than Stevie Y.

  12. Larkin stinks. Has always sucked as a captain. NOT an elite skater, NOT an elite passer, NOT an elite goal scorer, DOES NOT have elite vision, is very fragile, BELOW AVERAGE LEADERSHIP. ALWAYS disappears when meaningful hockey starts. Needs the C stripped from him and give it to Cat. The only reason larkin sees first line minutes is because Detroit doesnt have good Center depth. Larkin needs to go as well as a couple draft picks and get a legit Top6 Center. Someone who can LEAD BY EXAMPLE. Make the guys around you better. Since the olympics, the best 2 wings hands down are Kane and Cat. They are playing and checking like their lives depend on it. Larkin skated just fine last night. Dude should have been back 2 games ago. Larkin and Raymond become ghosts the second March 1st comes around.

  13. Id like to believe detroit can turn it around. Last night hurt. I think if this team makes it, they will get bullied for 4 games and go home in worse shape than they showed up in.

  14. Yzerman and Draper along with the director of north american scouting has failed. The team is soft with little to no chemistry and the prospect pool is overrated. When you have a coach calling out empty sweaters on the ice that is just f**ked up. Management has failed. Playing dump and chase when you don't have the team physicality to fight in the corners for the puck is just giving the puck away. That's all they did the last minute of the Ottawa loss.
Why the hell is your top scorer and smallest guy on the team fighting?!?!? WTF

  15. Sorry I thought this would be personel for Steve, apparently it is not. It is time to ask Steve to walk away with dignity if he doesnt then he should be fired. He had opprotunities to make deal to imporve the team and he did not. Just like Holems, there is not sense of real desire to go out there and put a team together to win it all.

  16. Near the end Debrincat was in a headlock and Tkachuk came in and rubbed his glove all in his face. The nearest Red Wing just casually put his hand on Tkachuk, but didn't stop him. That's when Debrincat lost it confusing the guy he fought for Tkachuk. Embarrassingly soft team that is not hard to play against and nobody is afraid of. Great job Yzerman!

  17. Mike, as a Grand Rapidian, no offense taken about your comments about the Griffins potentially winning a third championship this year. The Red Wings lack the offensive firepower and mental toughness to be a good team. They don't seem to get going in most games until it's midway through the second period. The lack of energy is a reflection on Todd McLellan. And, of course, Yzerman's incompetence as a GM. John Leonard, Sebastian Cossa and Dominik Shine should all be playing serious minutes with the Wings. Instead, Cossa – who won the AHL Player of the Month twice this season – never sees more than a split-second in Detroit, as if Cam Talbot could hold his strap as backup netminder. Leonard, who was tearing up the AHL, got called up briefly, lit the lamp and then was sent down. He's relegated to the 4th line when he does see a few sparse minutes in Detroit, as if there are all kinds of more skilled players ahead of him on the roster. Shine comes in and scraps, scores a goal and is given limited minutes. McLellan is not putting some of the better players on the ice because he seems to enjoy the Red Wings scoring no goals until late in the 2nd period.

  18. realistically all they can do to build something is to nuke the whole team, the farm, the management. start at the bottom and 3-4 years back in with good hires. thats it. trade everyone including larkin and anything they have of value.

  19. I agree that Faulk was a good addition, but not for a 1st Rounder, he is 34. Great addition, but to use a 1st Rounder to bring him and his experience which we need is paying too much. Next we traded for a guy Perron, who used to play on our team, once again a guy who is 37. So why did we trade him away a year and some ago. When really the only guy who is on the team at that age killing it, is Patrick Kane.
Make moves for youth and to make your team better. These trades are frugal

Lastly the "YzerPlan" might be at an end. We all thought he would build this team like Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay has had different scouts, coaches, trainers and just about everything, so the plan is not going to just spit out a wagon like team because. We have not had success either by bringing in old assistant coaches from Tampa Bay, which were our last two head coaches before Todd.

I am not sure where we go from here. We need to trade and be aggressive and bring in young star player to complement the good players we have.

  20. 4:08 Kenny called out what every hockey fan with a brain called out weeks ago. This isn’t some genius prediction that the Red Wings would do the same bullsh*t again. How many times do you have to watch this routine before you stop getting fooled? My grandma passed away 2 years ago and she called it out. My little nephew spoke his first words a few weeks ago and his very first words were “Red Wings will blow it.” Kenny is a genius of hockey as much as Mike is a genius of knitting.
