The Montreal Canadiens came back in a big way at the Bell Centre, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2.
After a slow start that saw Carolina jump out early with goals from Nikolaj Ehlers and Jordan Staal, the Canadiens flipped the script. Montreal responded with five unanswered goals, led by Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky, who sparked the comeback in the second period.
Rookie Oliver Kapanen got the Habs on the board, while Ivan Demidov added a clutch third-period goal, and Jake Evans sealed it with an empty-netter. Goaltender Jakub Dobes was outstanding, turning aside 41 shots and giving Montreal a chance to claw back into the game.
That was Montreal’s 24th comeback win of the season, tying a franchise record and continuing their strong push late in the year.
On today’s show, Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico break down:
The Canadiens’ resilience and comeback ability
Cole Caufield’s red-hot scoring pace
Ivan Demidov’s continued impact
Jakub Dobes stepping up in a big spot
What this win means for the Habs playoff push

Sean we need a live Masters stream on Masters Sunday. If it goes well you could do every major. What do you say?
93 ready to explode after hitting a wall last few weeks.
76 needs to score- he deserves one. 24 under the radar great pickup on and off the ice. We are in a good spot when our goalie of the future is waiting in the wings while 75 lights it up!
LET's give FOWLER a chance.
I can't believe msl won't put cole out there with a 2 goal lead for empty net goal pathetic
Curious 👀 about Zharovsky as news has kind of slowed down. Is he still progressing?
Don’t want 13 getting hurt trying to block a shot at end of game….
They’re three points ahead of ninth place. Who friggin’ cares which team they’d play in round one? Just be in round one.
I’m sure some teams out there don’t want to face the Habs either
Personally I’d love to play Tampa. Make Kucherov eat his words from 2021 Stanley Cup Final
Shaun you are a funny man
Demigod raised his game again last night. Hope he can keep it up. He would have blow the roof off if he'd been able to finish on his 'super deke' up the middle. The more he plays and learns he'll finish those more often, what a future with him on the team….
Amazing show as always!
I don’t super understand the surety behind AHL call ups, or even Hage playing this season. The last few years when it’s happened has not been circumstances anything like this season. Demidov only came because they thought he’d make that group better. I don’t see how they’d think Hage is going to make this team better, when the last thing they need help with is scoring goals. And it might just take until the last game to clinch. This cup of coffee people think these kids are gonna get sure hinges on some crucial variables.
Kapanen will be our 3rd line center & 4th line center will be Beck. Our 2nd line center isn’t a Hab yet
Observation and or question. I think we/everyone forgets that Dobes is a rookie. He's now 23-8-4, .896 SV%, 2.88 GA. Let's assume that Dobe plays to the level he did last night or just slightly below but always at say .910 SV%. IF he does that AND IF that helps the Habs in to a top 3 spot in the Atlantic should he not be considered a top candidate for RoY? Yeah, yeah I know 'Shaefer, Shaefer, Shaefer' but goalie is by far the hardest position in the NHL to excel at, its not even close. Age can't be used as a factor, that's got nothing to do with the value to the team or how much a player impacts the game. So lets say Dobe plays 8 of the last 12 games. If he can give us .910/.920 SV% for those I think he should be the top RoY candidate, but I also fear the reporters will "forget" he's a rookie and use the fact he's 24 against him. Just throwing it out there.
KK is turning 26, he’s older than Goalfield.
Dobes is your go to guy. If Monty or Fowler had those numbers everyone would say you start them in the playoffs. If they don't start Dobes it's a slap in the face, and if I was him I would make it public that I want a trade.
Am I the only one who sees untapped potential with Arber. Yes, he chases to much defensively and has to stop letting guys go around him at times, but if they told him to simply ckear/protect the net and make good outlet passes i believe he can do it, plus he has more offense to give, he holds the offensive blueline very well, makes solid cross ice passes d to d, puts it back down low when needed making good decisions. Every d man on the team makes some errors clearing the puck, I don't see arber doing more errors than the rest for the most part. I would play him on his off side with guhle or hell, try him with lane, he has looked goid there for the limited amount t of time he had gotten. We need to see what we have in him before any decisions are made. And its true that when lane has made poor decisions stubble was way to ice, I think arber would have been back ready to defend. Just my opinion, I feel xhekai gets a rough ride from a lot of people.
I believe we have seven guys with Stanley Cup finals experience in Gally, zukes, Goal, Pizza, Powerhorse, Evans and Newy. That counts for something.
