SEASON OVER: San Jose Sharks Big Game MELTDOWN—Will Smith & Macklin Celebrini Spotlight

San Jose Sharks’ playoff dreams fade after a crushing 6-3 loss, but bright spots emerge as Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Igor Chernyshov flash the potential of San Jose’s future top line. Can these young talents spearhead a dramatic rebuild and reposition the Sharks as contenders by 2026? JD Young explores whether recent performances point to better days ahead for the franchise.

JD Young breaks down the underlying issues plaguing the Sharks—a thin blue line, inconsistent goaltending, and questions about Ryan Warsofsky’s long-term role as head coach. The episode covers Will Smith’s resurgence after his benching, Mukhamadoulin’s standout defensive performance, and the strategic implications of the Sharks’ draft position as the organization focuses on acquiring a high-caliber defenseman. With veterans potentially being phased out and promising prospects stepping up, JD asks: Will the Sharks capitalize on their high draft pick to accelerate the rebuild?

  1. It’s so over if we keep playing like this. I have this feeling that Warsofsky may not be around next season…

  2. I had to tell a friend during the game tonight: we are 5 points outside of a wildcard spot and also 5 points away from being in the conversation for a top 5 pick. The state of the Western Conference, and in particular the Pacific Division is a huge boon for us in a season where we never even expected a chance at the playoffs

  3. the good news is that 3 of the top 4 D (all RHD) are within the Sharks pick range potentially. Verhoeff's too high, but Reid, Rudolph, and Lin aren't. i think Rudolph is the all around best available.

  4. Season isn't over. Playoffs are a longer shot, but even a few game win streak could get this team close.

But the more likely outcome is Sharks miss the playoffs and get a pretty good pick out of this. Still, really need the Oilers to soil the bed and Sharks get two lottery shots

  5. Warso should take the majority of the blame. The players have not developed under him and his staff. Did the win more games than last year? Yes, but that is due to Mack, not the coaching. He needs to go. I also give Greer two more years to improve this team or start thinking he may need to be next.

  6. Shark's missing playoffs, stadium renovation scheduled for the end of the month 🤫🤷🏻‍♂️.

Can't do renovations with a packed house just sayin

  7. Y’all think trading for Sherwood was a big mistake now that we’re not making the playoffs and the 2nd round picks are more valuable than they were at the time of the trade?

  8. You miss the fact that this is a Nashville team of mostly AHL players on the ice. This game had nothing to do with where the team could or should be at. This game loss is a coaching problem. Wars needs to go yesterday.

  9. Eklund should not be ahead of Misa on the Powerplay. I just don’t see it with Eklund. He’s not getting better.

  10. JD, you said, “in the long run it’s probably better for this team if they end up with another high draft pick.” Thanks for finally admitting it!

  11. As a realistic Sharks fan, my expectation was a fun team that still finished in that 5-10 pick area so this season is still progress. Next year is when we will be firmly in the post season race.

  12. It’s probably better in the long run that we get a higher draft pick- especially because there are some decent defense prospects that could help us out. Regardless, we aren’t ready for playoff hockey. You could tell the whole team was nervous ( they even admitted it) and just made some awful mistakes. Hopefully, this is a good lesson for not only the team but Warso too. And hopefully Grier gets it together and figures out how to help us on the blue line during the offseason

  13. This team wasn’t built to win. It was built to gain more assets and Celebrini with above average goalie play changed that.

26-27 MG needs to build a team to win. No more planing to trade off stuff.
Warso has to coach to win. Development is the focus of the AHL.
    Lines need to gel

A bunch of players need to be replaced — blue line and bottom six wingers.
