Thomas was the guy to mortgage the future for. Already halfway there with what we gave for Faulk. Add another first and another prospect and we'd have a 26 year old ppg center with 4 years on a contract. Oh well….
Wings play harder without larkin. They out hit their last 2 opponents, by the start of the third in this game they were down 21-8 in hits. I dont care about the shot count because they were mostly from the perimeter, no second chance shots, and no fight for the puck. Most captains in wings history when they come back you see the players play harder than this. Larkin is – 5v5, 44% in faceoffs but of course he scores a po goal that makes no difference.

Remember when seider hit people. Remember when he played defense first and wasnt trying to jump in the playoffs every time. Remember when kane played like he gave a crap and not like hasbeen kane. Remember when faulk looked like a solid dman and not another dman who turns the puck over in his own zone and screens his own goalie. Most of that was just a game ago. Is larkin walking into the locker room with a gold medal around his neck? Did larkin show up drunk for a week after the Olympics and the players are sick ofnhis b.s.? Something is off in the locker room and it starts with the guy who's overstayed his welcome, the guy who collapses innthe second half of the season. But this teamnhas been – all year, so they didn't deserve to be playing for a playoff spot anyway.
Maybe slotting Finnie as your fist line LW from the start of the season was a tell. 🤷🏻♂️

Maybe getting Larkin back to this game already wasnt a good thing. You can see he is far from 100% & it's also very clear that many players who raised their games when he was out, concious or nonconcious, seem to have turned it down a few procent likely "relaxing" a bit with the captain back. I also gattu say, demoting MBN ahead of this game feels odd. Why not play him ahead of any of the other old slow "jerseys" out there who really contributes nothing and definitely isnt getting any better, we burned a year of his ELC to simply get to play 3 games on the 4th line with bellow 10 mins of icetime, just brilliant… I also don't get Bernard-Docker over ASP in the lineup when we are struggling badly for offense.
They talk all the time about this time of year it's invalueble experience to play and where you really grow as a player. Then why are we not playing guys that actually still have room to grow?! Specially when you play a bunch of 30+ year olds that are, if at all, just marginally "better". It reminds me about last time we made the playoffs and we continue to play a guy like Joakim Andersson over Anthony Mantha, just because it was more "safe". Cant win games without scoring goals and this "afraid to let in goals/lose"- hockey is never a successful concept. But here we go again, icing a lineup time and time again that is more focused on being afraid to lose rather show the will to win (& score). So frustrating…
We have enough meat and potatoes offensive guys that can play defense. We need to take swings on guys now with big offensive potential who may need to work on their defense. I want to see highlight packages of guys juking people out of their jock straps from our prospects. We lack that creativity to beat a guy and find space in the middle of the ice. We need to draft some more of that sniper type of player type.
So, the wings still suck.

For their 100th anniversary, the Wings will miss the playoffs for the 10th straight year. I’m done with this topic. I don’t see how the team can turn things around—especially when you look at how the competition is performing.
To be honest, I also expect Yzerman to leave (or be let go). In this case, it shouldn’t matter what he accomplished for Detroit as a player or the status he still holds because of it. He has repeatedly failed to improve the team; he didn’t manage to bring in 1-2 forwards to Hockeytown all season who could score 20-30 goals. His moves at the trade deadline were too late and too little.
They gave Yzerman the 100th-anniversary celebration, as well as the Fedorov ceremony in January, but hopefully his staying on beyond this season is tied to making the playoffs. So: Enough with the “Yzerplan”!

Wings have no fight in them collectively. Cant be coming out like that in in the first period and in most of the second and tell people youre "trying" to make the playoffs. Talent from 2nd line down is mediocre, they dont score goals, they play good defense and a good perimeter game but refuse to crash the net or get physical. Id honestly rather see a complete rebuild than watch these guys be really good and mediocre at the same time year in and year out. Trade EVERYBODY, and i mean everybody. Field an AHL team for a few seasons and get every single overall 1st you could possibly get. Fire Steve, Fire McLellan, fire the entire front office and start from scratch. Thats just where im at. Im done stressing about it for the year. Im done watching regular season games. Ill start watching again if they make the playoffs of course (which they wont) but at this moment ive given up on the players and on steve. id simply rather watch the Tigers over this weak red wings team.
You guys have said Faulk has made the defense better, yet he is a -2 in 8 games, which would be a -20 over a season. I would rather have ASP in the lineup getting NHL reps. Buffalo let their rookies play, and look at them now.
