They never had a goalie worth anything. The defense was never good enough. Coaching was always average at best.

How is it a Golden Era? They've had some great teams. Many years ago sadly now. They should've made the 4 of them summer with Doug Gilmour.

Nah the most wasted era in the NHL was Carey Price! He was a legend between the pipes but the team in front of him for his entire tenure was shit and therefore wasted Carey’s entire career in Montreal!

The organization has a habit of sucking the soul out of players. It's not a team, it's just a bunch of guys punching in and playing on the same ice.

Problem was the nhl format more than anything else. Here now in 2026 Colorado Dallas and Minnesota are the best 3 teams in the west all locked in the same division one of them will go home. Colorado which has been the best team in the league all season here now at 70 game mark Colorado has 13 regulation losses, 6 of those losses came to Atlantic Division opponents in only 16 games against them. The fact of the matter is the leafs play in by far the most difficult division in hockey the last time an Atlantic division opponent was not in the finals was 2017-2018 when Washington won the cup, which was the beginning of the Mathews Nylander Marner era. In order to become a dynasty you need to slay the dragon, the leafs have had to deal with Tampa Boston and Florida all top 5 league wide teams year in and year out. They were never able to overcome that yet still consistently have little trouble dismantling Edmonton as well as Vegas over the years. I’d even argue that the only reason cups have been won in the west is because getting out of the east alive too difficult and playing another series after 3 gruelling ones takes its toll. Either way, the leafs have themselves to blame for not getting it done in every game 7 but I do believe that team with was a lot closer than people would like to admit despite only winning two playoff series in the last 9 years.
