The Quinn Hughes trade has changed everything for the Minnesota Wild.
Before the Wild acquired Hughes from the Canucks, they ranked 25th in the NHL in goals scored per game. Since Hughes’ arrival, the Wild are averaging 3.67 goals per game – the best mark in the Western Conference and fourth-best in the NHL.
Harman Dayal breaks down just how Hughes’ style of play has blended perfectly with the Wild offense.

the offense has no been fixed they cant put the puck in the net. requires desire, skill and talent.
Thanks for your analysis! The game happens so fast, the common spectator doesn’t always see the parts that make up a great play.
hughes give away's …. are costly to the wild
Can their goalie deal with the pressure?
Wild have been weak at netfront all year! EK has struggled and now with Rossi departing Yurov just has not upticked his offense much. MacCarron should help but now the Wild have not gotten the boatd battle wins especially with smaller, fast teams like Chicago and the Mamouth and you cannot overlook the forecheck troubles the Wild have with the Blue Jackets! Sure the Wild dump pucks in but this entire team heads to the bench and leave none and done as their offense statement! They will need to win boatd battles to get the puck in from the perimeter…I have serious doubts they will effectively do it!
I don't know you give the Wild an excellent chance to get by either the Avs or Stars……..I like the Wild, but I think that's even money at best.
Nice video! Quinn brings so much to this team. I really like watching them play but since the Olympics I can see they’re tired and I would like them to rest a little bit. Not an easy path with colorado and Dallas, but I’m still rooting for them!
The wild haven’t won a SINGLE PLAYOFF SERIES in 11 YEARS
the mughsot constantly zooming in and out is so annoying
One key factor missing in this analysis is his icetime. All that skill isnt on the ice for 18 minutes, its on the ice for almost 30. The top lines were fine but youre seeing depth scoring because Hughes can stay out for those bottom 6 guys to have a top tier playmaker with them.
Love this content! I’m a MN fan, in MN. Def a key puzzle piece needed for this Wild team! Today’s win showed we still are in it! Especially against the stars. Obviously we’re not 100% confident we can take a playoff series win but it just shows what we can do now with what we have. And even if we don’t make it all the way. There are still more puzzle pieces for next year yet to be set and stone! But the fact we have made it this far and this high up after acquiring Quinny, I’m excited for our future! Great Content
The NHL playoff seeding system sucks shit. After Colorado, Minnesota and Dallas are the second and third best teams in the Western Conference…and may likely end up meeting in the first round. WTF, Gary Lawyer? There is no way two teams that are near the top of a 16-team conference should ever meet before the third round. This is why so many conference final series rarely match the two best teams in said conference. It can also set the stage for a mismatch in the final, if a low seeded team gets hot at the right time. Have eight divisions in each conference for all I care…just reseed the two conferences 1-8 overall based on points. That will ensure that two excellent teams will meet in each conference final with yearly consistency, which ultimately will produce the best matchup and most worthy teams grinding it out for four more wins to lift the Cup. Hockey fans deserve that more than anything!
Yeah but how much has their goals given up per game gone up by. Before hughes trade 2.38 after hughes trade 3.15. Not saying I dont like having hughes on our team hes one of the best but we were top 3 in the league without him we score more goals but we also give up more then we have. If nothing else he makes the team even more fun to watch since his arrival. Not sure this does anything more than make the wild a fun team to watch not exactly a wash but close too it. When guys like kaprizov and jeek are out you still notice it and hughes doesn't really take over but idk the Olympics could be a factor maybe hes tired or struggling to get up for Tuesday night games in the nhl.
I don't understand how Hughes is a -2 and Faber is a +21.
Not really, the Wild kinda suck lately
I was hopeful this was going to be about the Oilers acquisition of Connor Murphy 🙂 but this is a much more accurate example of how much a good Defense helps an Offense.
Traded the worst D in the league for the best. I was so shocked that the wild finally got a grade A trade done.
2:38 lol the leafs won this game 4-2
Great analysis
