Buffalo Sabres GIVE NO GROUND to Tampa, beating Kings, and getting point vs Ducks

The Buffalo Sabres finished their West Coast road trip with seven of eight points, following a victory in LA over the Kings, and a comeback OT loss to the Anaheim Ducks, which keeps them four points up on the Lightning with just a few weeks to go in the season. The win over the Kings was super impressive, but what about the OT loss to the Ducks? It’s as good as you should feel about a loss. The Sabres were playing the second of a back to back, were down by two in the third period, and the Lightning also lost in OT. It should never feel better to get a point with that added context. HOWEVER, the Sabres did blow a lead in the final two minutes following an Alex Tuch tripping penalty, and a big mistake by Ryan McLeod on the ensuing penalty kill.

Plus, Zach Benson has refound his form in the last couple of games, playing on the fourth line with Sam Carrick and Beck Malenstyn. Is that to be his permanent home the rest of the way? And the bottom of the East playoff race is expanding to a bunch of teams. It’s now realistic for the Sabres to play any of eight teams, with the Bruins increasing in likelihood.

  1. Get these mistakes out now and lock the Eff in for the playoffs, personally in proud of how well we did, cuz usually get murdered on our west coast trips, but this team is special

  2. Best players let them down. Lyon got lit up. Tuck was careless taking penalty. Penalty kill was terrible. Tage played defense like my grandmother.

  3. In the playoffs overtime looks completely different. Even in the olympics some of these players have never played even strength OT. That should be interesting to say the least

  4. Tage is a liability in OT this is at least the third or fourth time he gets beat because of lack of speed unless he’s constantly moving its Speed speed speed in ot

  5. Their D needs to be more physical, stick checking is not going to cut it in the playoffs '

  6. If overtime was 5v5 hockey, Buffalo would have won. We saw a very tired team last night, but they proved that they can play when they are tired

  7. This pod is ALWAYS too loud. Granted, you’re an obnoxious, big mouth blowhard, but your amp is set too high

  8. -Lyon has a weak game and was beat on the same back hand deke three times.
-Defense kept backing off and let them walk right in continuously.
-Our leaders (Tuch) takes a dumb end of game penalty and (Tage) loses another board battles and gives up the puck for a 2 on 0.

  9. I was at the Anaheim game.
We looked flat at times, & our PK totally sucked!!
But getting 7 outta 8 points on a west coast trip, we really can't complain.

  10. The minimum playoff threshold 95 points has been met. What is the projected number they need to meet to clinch the playoff spot? 100 points?

  11. i swear our 4th line has been our best line for a few games.
Also Benson has looked really strong for like 3-4 ish games now.

  12. Play off games are physically & mentally challenges playing every other day. I suggest alternating bottom d pair by inserting Kesserling & Schenn & limiting ice time of top 4, they can't be playing 20 plus min/game.

  13. I was not happy with coming back and not finishing it off. The issue I had with this game is the Sabres were horrible defensively. They allowed a lot of odd number chances and breakaway chances. Which brings me to the goalie problem/saviour. Lyon both kept us in that game with the big saves when needed, but he also let in a lot of easy save goals. So that was the frustrating part…esp when seeing the OT goal was the same goal that we just saw in game, with a weak backhander to a very open area of the goal. Glad they got the point but the weakness was the defending, the terrible PK (and PP but we know that won't change) and up and down goal tending.

  14. Sabres played into Anaheim type game. All offense no defense. Quacks are a very fast team but if contained they will get frustrated and they can be picked apart. Sabres never established that defensive game. Overall great roadie. Reset and be ready for Boston

  15. I seriously am concerned that some time in early December I was in a near fatal car accident and have been in a coma ever since. I just can't wrap my head around this whole Sabres situation. Last night is a great example. Powerplay was terrible. Penalty kill gives up three goals. Alex Lyon seemed unable to move left to right to save his life, let alone a puck. That is a game we lose 6-1. Yet somehow we actually get a standings point out of it? Can't be real!
