You say the “players want to play” so that’s why NHLers go to the Olympics. 140 NHLers are on an Olympic roster. Around 460 are sitting at home. So 140 guys who already have lived a dream by making the NHL selfishly screw their fans who fund their million dollar salaries. These guys SHOULD NOT be allowed to play in the Olympics. Especially since it occurs smack in the heart of the NHL season.
the nhl whining about players playing/getting injured in non-nhl competitions makes no sense. the players have the same chance of getting injured wherever they play. also i think all the nhl teams have players playing in the olympics so its not even unfair between the teams. 82 games in the regular season and if a couple players play 4 to 6 games on top of that its somehow a financial catastrophe for the nhl. greed is bad. and even if there was "significant loss of revenue" it wouldnt matter, its more than justified to play for your country in the olympics once in 4 years. never heard barcelona or real madrid complaining that messi and ronaldo are risking themselves playing in the world cup.
