Recap: San Diego Gulls vs Colorado Eagles, 3.17.2026



The San Diego Gulls battled back in dramatic fashion to earn a 6-5 shootout victory over the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday night at Blue Federal Credit Union Arena. Colorado struck first just over two minutes into the game, but the Gulls responded with a strong second period, highlighted by a shorthanded goal from Nathan Gaucher and additional tallies from Sam Colangelo and Matthew Phillips to briefly take control. The Eagles answered with three goals of their own in the middle frame, including a power-play marker from Alex Barré-Boulet, sending the game into the third period tied 4-4.

Colorado regained the lead late in the third, but the Gulls refused to go away. Tristan Luneau buried a power-play goal with under two minutes remaining before Sasha Pastujov delivered the equalizer with 33 seconds left to force overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, the game went to a shootout where goals from Colangelo, Ryan Carpenter and Nikita Nesterenko sealed the win, with Nesterenko netting the game-winner. Tomas Suchanek turned aside key chances throughout, including in overtime and the shootout, as San Diego secured a thrilling comeback victory.

  1. Huge! The boys showed up and Suchanek is starting to look like he did a few years ago now that he's shaken off some of the cobwebs.
