Blues Dealing Well with Zero Pressure as Their Record Improves

The Blues have been very good over the last couple of weeks and are playing the way many knew they could, just haven’t for most of this season.

  1. As a Blues fan, I want to build around Robert Thomas. As I see it the problem hasn't been Thomas, but the linemates not finishing the chances he creates.

  2. Logan Mailloux has been an underrated part of our recent surge – he looks like a completely different player (AKA, a competent one) since the Olympic break

  3. The goaltending has been much better lately than the start of the seaspn. There have still been games where they are being dominated but the goalie kept them in the game. That being said, I wonder how many times the Blues blew a four goal lead. I also think they have not done well in OT to get the extra point but I think a little better of late. There are some in St. Louis that see these wins as losses wanting the number one draft pick. Thanks for the review on the Blues.

  4. They got hot on a fluke gambling win. Everyone betting against them because they are terrible so they magically are winning aka losing people money they won’t make the playoffs it’s just a fluke. They do have a good head coach though

  5. Thanks for the coverage Shannon. Much appreciated. As far as the team goes, I am sort of torn. It would be very Blues like to climb back up high enough into the middle so that we don't get a swing towards the top of the draft. That has been a issue for the Blues for a long time. They do just well enough to get in the middle third, but beyond 2019, they rarely get deep into the playoffs where you feel like the team has a good shot.

  6. They aren't making the playoffs… however, this run is great for all of the young kids that are the future. Playing meaningful games, and winning, is better than losing miserably. Duh, I know, but this is better than thanking for a top pick.

  7. The Blues Cup win in 2019 was the first in the salary cap era without a 1st or 2nd overall pick on the roster. That team had a 3rd, 4th, and 5th, all as veterans. I want my team to keep losing. In no other sport are those top picks more valuable

  8. It’s such a tension to want the high draft pick but also wanting a good winning culture in the locker room.

  9. The Blues biggest problem, and a long running one at that, is that they will step up against top competition and then drop an egg against basement dwellers they really should be able to beat. And that was evidenced by the fact that they lost to the Jets last night.

  10. I am glad the blues are winning, but I still do not think they will make the playoffs. Unfortunately, they probably do not get McKenna or Stenberg either.
However, I believe they can recover and succeed their core that was in the trading block. I was honestly relieved we didn't trade Thomas and glad Parayko chose to stay a Blue and feels like there is unfinished business with this team.

  11. If we make playoffs and don’t give Hofer a shot I’m going to be mad. Kid’s been lights out this season.

I think they need to move Kyrou in the offseason. He’s incredibly inconsistent and they all struggle at the beginning of season. With Snuggy and Holloway on the top line and middle 6 winger depth they could get him out and bring up Carbonneau.

  12. Appreciate the Blues love. They are getting healthy which has been nice to see. It's good to see them playing better but we could really use a good draft pick. We'll see!

  13. Absolutely love the hat and overview. The future of this team looks to be very good due to the youngsters on the team as well as the upcoming prospects.

  14. I hate rooting against them and it's hard to actually do it, but we just need to keep the tank going. Inching into the playoffs and a 1st round knock out or barely missing is not going to help us in the long run.

  15. Are we really thinking they're trying to make a run after trading pieces? Much more likely they're just trying to see how well they can do, build for next year

  16. They have been playing like a completely different team since the trades. Whatever happens this year, things are looking up I'd say.

  17. They're crap at tanking.
They have almosy zero chance to make the playoffs, esp after losing in the peg.
I have massive respect for Stillman and ownership commitment. Still, the long view is the right one, get the best draft pick you can. And root against the Aves so that trade 1st rounder is higher.

  18. I wonder if the Blues go after Brady Tkachuk if they think they have enough pieces. Tkachuk would be a game changer for sure

  19. I would HATE to trade Binnington. Don't care about the stats, he's the best goalie on the team and would be the best option in the playoffs – there's a reason Team Canada picked Binnington as their starter. I always thought it was absolutely INSANE to even consider dealing Thomas, Parayko or Binner. We have a really exciting core of good young players:

    – Thomas, Kyrou, Neighbors, Holloway, Snuggs, Toropchenko – all super solid and tons of potential in their roles
    – Still like Buchnevich & Sunny
    – Like Lindstein, Dvorsky and Walker, intrigued by Carbonneau
    – Parayko, Fowler, Broberg – all super solid
    – Mailloux is interesting still
    – Binner & Hofer can win a cup, obviously

With $22M+ in cap space, there's room to add a solid 2C and some gritty veteran D-Men & 3rd & 4th line players OR make one splash. Weirdly, I'm wondering if Monty was the right guy to maximize this team – especially Binner – as the HC. People think very highly of him.

IDK, feels to me like we're one great offseason and some good, ol' fashioned player development away from having a contending team in a couple years. This team just massively underperformed this year, but the team is really young still.

  20. I love what the boys are doing but I don't want them to win… I rather them have a top 5 pick and build for the next 2 years. Won't be upset if they make it but the future is better shot in my opinion.

  21. As a blues fan seeing them play this way is frustrating since I thought we'd be more like this coming into the season. I find myself wishing we'd either found a way to get 6 more points in the first 60 games so that this would feel like a legitimate playoff push instead of weakening our draft pick. I appreciate the coverage though and am hopeful for what we can build.

  22. Glad they kept Thomas. Blues have a few players with a lot of potential. Sorry to say, I do think its time to trade Bennington.

  23. honestly, the amount of injuries we’ve dealt with this year has been insane and there’s at least two or three different games where we had two players injured in the same game not making excuses just throwing that out there because it is a fact, they have struggled to keep everybody healthy all year Here’s hoping that and the puck luck are both turning around for us… Awesome video thank you for the deep dive 💙💛💙

  24. Holloway coming back has been massive. The top line with him, Thomas and Snuggerud has been dangerous lately, even with Thomas banged up.

  25. Thank you for giving us Blues Fans hope! But we all know these lady games are for building chemistry and improving in areas there not good in. Love the channel Go Blues!!! 💙

  26. Before Christmas, I made a $1 bet on the Blues winning the Cup. It will pay out over $1,000 if they somehow do it. Figure it has better odds than a lottery ticket. However, I don't buy lotto tickets so not sure why that comparison helps me justify throwing away $1.
