The Pens are not Cup contenders. Now, IF Kyle Dubas pulled off a trade for Thomas at the dealine, then yes they would be. I do believe that this off-season, with our cap room, Geno willing to take a pay cut, if we can re-sign Dewar to the same as Lizotte at 2.5$ aav, Chinakhov to something around 6$ mill or so, etc We then have enough to use our assests to trade for a Thomas and/or Robertson, who both are elite, both would take our team to a favourites to go to the Cup, and be the key players for 10 years from now. We would even have $$$ for a Whitecloud or similar to stabilize our defense. I would really hope to flip Skinner and Mantha at the draft or at least before July 1st. We would need those assests if we went after the aforementioned Thomas, Robertson, Whitecloud.
Can they beat the Isles/Jackets? Yeah. Both tough outs stylistically, but yeah. Can they beat the Canes? Also stylistically tough but yeah. Can they beat the Lightning or the (checking my notes) Sabres (?)? Yeah. Neither are very scary. If it's Buffalo they probably have already declared victory just making the ECF.
In the finals? The Central survivor, or whatever team is on enough of a tear to beat that juggernaut, is probably a bridge too far.
But making the Cup, even making the ECF with this roster? I'd never be more proud of this team.

There are no shootouts in the playoffs, so we have a chance.
Pens are maybe overachievers this season. They right in mid rebuild. They looked great against the Avalanche. Would be happy if they make playoffs and whatever they do is terrific. Not expecting them to go too deep if they make it.
