It was a terrifying night at Climate Pledge Arena as Seattle Kraken veteran Jaden Schwartz suffered a frightening injury that left the crowd in a state of shock.
Late in the first period of the game against the Ottawa Senators, things took a turn for the worse during a routine hockey play. Eeli Tolvanen delivered a massive hit on Nick Cousins, which caused Cousins to lose his balance. As Cousins fell, his right leg kicked up high into the air, and his skate blade caught Jaden Schwartz directly in the face.
The scene was immediately concerning as Schwartz went down and began to bleed on the ice. For anyone new to hockey, a skate blade is essentially a razor-sharp piece of steel, so any contact with the face or neck is treated as an emergency situation.
The good news is that Schwartz was able to get up and skate to the locker room under his own power, though he was ruled out for the remainder of the game. This is a massive blow for the Kraken, who are currently fighting for a wild-card spot and already missing other key players.
We are still waiting on word for how many stitches were needed or if there is any long-term damage to his eye or jaw. Given Schwartz’s history of missing time with injuries, fans are hoping for the best but preparing for him to miss a few games.

Freak accident or not, that Sen's player should be given at least a 10 game suspension and a $1 million fine as his actions could have ruined Schwartz's career.
