Also, I believe the Dadonov fiasco happened in February / March 2022, and not 2021. So that's 4 years ago.

So basically 100mill for a 32nd overall pick. Also, the league has a certain responsibility to have systems in place so that those types of mistakes shouldn't happen. Its not that hard.

Gentlemen, Oiler fans are still salty over the James Neal 3rd round conditional pick sent to the Flames. A contract was signed, Milan Lucic sent the other way, and the League decided that while Neal didn't score 21 goals because of the COVID shortened season, that 19 was close enough. This is after the 2015 insane decision to scrap the Coach and Executive compensation policy, but dinged Edmonton for a 2nd anyway.
Unrelated but what is McDavid going for at next year’s deadline?
The main reason this happened is the league, during sale negotiating with Andlauers group, and amidst pressuring them to up their bid by 100M$, did not disclose in legal terms what would be descrived as a 'material fact'. That is to say, it is a fact that would have been considered material to the value of the obiect of the agreement. A penalty of a 1st round pick, would be considered material, in any jurisdiction. Gary had to walk this penalty back because they got greedy in the negotiations and knowingly witheld material information. Andlauer would not publicly expose Gary's emails, he would sue the league and he would win. Gary and the NHL understood that a lawsuit in this matter is far more painful than walking back the penalty. The takeaway here is that the Gary and the NHL are ultimately micky mouse. They do not know how to run a league and its pretty embarrassing. This should be the end of Garys tenor. Andlauer was 100% right here – the senators and the value of the franchise was misrepresented to him during the transaction, the NHL knowingly withheld material information resulting in him overpaying by a significant amount.
Impressive how little this crew knows about other teams in the league..Andlauers bid included multiple other owners, he is just the majority one.
