  1. As a young(25) disabled veteran, having stability issues, the smith machine helps me maintain strength and good form while maintaining good stability. It’s also safer for me just in case.

  2. I must admit. Started strength training to help with diet to loose body fat. When using a seated press or free weight barbell, I never felt my pecs. Used the smith machine and felt them immediately. Really loved it.

  3. Surely the friction is completely negligible unless you’re using some 30 year old rust bucket of a machine?

  4. You should have waited a few seconds with the ending to see the eyes fully explode .🎉🎉🎉

  5. i never get right when using smith machine, my shoulder hurt, used to hurt to when using barbell too, but after a while it no longer hurt, but i never get used to smith machine bench press

  6. agree, also it is a tool. to do things that you would have a hard time doing with free weights.

  7. As a long distance trail runner, stability is my n1 priority so free weights all the way about 99% of cases, but i still do Smith machine deep squats cuz nothing hits the glutes like that shit…

  8. Not giving a shit about free weights vs smith machine exercises unlocks a whole new level of satisfaction. Planet Fitness is 2 minutes from my house. I love that machine.

  9. In other words, unless you are old or in rehab needing that extra stability from a structure rather than from your core, standard free weights and rack are superior to the limitations of the smith machine. Important to rehab that core after using the smith machine by getting back to free weights ASAP. At 65 yo, I lift for function, not looks or ego. That 100 lb box at Costco does not have a trolley assist device to get it onto the push cart.

  10. I have used both and from my own personal experience I like the regular bench. It gives you the ability to balance the weight you are lifting. When the weight shifts different muscles activate. Just my opinion lol

  11. All the gyms with free weights got bought out and shut down in my area. Now it's either Planet Fitness [$15/mo] or The Alaska Club [over $100/mo], so I'm stuck with what PF has since it would cost over $800 for me to get my hands on all the plates I need for my lifts. Not happening in this economy.

  12. I switched to smith machine squats and noticed with the same weights going up is a lot harder. I also noticed my ROM is much better during the whole lift with no stress on my back.

  13. I love it. People just don’t use it right. I get an insane pump on flat and incline press while using it. I don’t give two shits about ego or whatever. If I get a good workout from it, I use it. Because I’m not fucking dumb.

  14. I like smith machine, it gives me that extra 1-2 presses on the verge of failure knowing that I can fail and won't die, since I workout alone.

  15. 5:14 yea im built funny so when i flat bench in a smith machine i have to bring the bar to the bottom of my pec otherwise my elbows flare like crazy and my shoulders hurttt

  16. No one says it sucks for no reason. They say it sucks for reason #3, the unnatural position it puts your joints … especially in the squat. New people are screwing themselves all the time squatting on this machine.

  17. As someone who trained with only freeweights (no barbells) from home for over 4yrs, the smith machine is the best thing ever for me currently 😂 love it.

  18. I have seen Olympians and NHL players make great use of the smith machine. If its good enough for them, its good enough for for 99% of other people.

  19. I go to a small community gym, the only option for squats is a smith machine, donuts my only option without diving half and hour each way to use a gym. I’ve only been squatting a month or so, so find it forgiving and ‘safer’ to use on my own
