Fitz, you keep saying $3.2 million over 5 years. That's $640,000/yr. Surely you mean $3.2 million/yr.
Social media was not bad. It seemed to me one person on Tang's staff was. That wasn't an issue for me. The issue was not teaching defense and rebounding. Block out. Get backside rebounds. Get a great defense coach and some inside guys who can jump and move their feet. Give me 3 David N'Guessans.
Underwood didn't make the tournament for the first 3 seasons at Illinois, although he won the conference tournament and was regular season champ every year at UTSA.
Would love to see Clent Stewart being asked to be an assistant on the new coaching staff.
Thanks for adding Clent to this conversation. A coach’s mind and voice is a plus.
I believe they did the right thing. Considering that Cincinnati just fired their coach on March 13th, that says right there that Calhoun wasn't going to come to K-State and actually would have backed out on a contract. And if that had happened, well K-State would be either having to quickly negotiate with Alexander or lose Alexander as well. So even though this is a weak coaching class k State did do the right thing by hiring Alexander as soon as possible. At least we're not ending this like Penn State did
My concern is the Missouri Valley is a polished streamlined offensive league with only average below high level defense. The Big 12 is a dominant physical defensive league with athletes that play at a high level one on one. Cosch CA is in for an awakening. Coach CA has to make some elite asst coach hires who understand and teach that kind of basketball.
This is great discussion- thank you for all the perspectives!
He will be gone in 2-3 years
Feel like adding a former player is the same thing as a head coach hiring his buddy who isn’t qualified. Tang tried this year with mark vital and that didn’t work. Don’t waste a staff spot on a former player just for this idea that they can bring their culture that they were apart of 10-20 years ago with little to no college coaching experience.
