FIRE GARY BETTMAN. That crook.
He's going to get fined. Or do they only do that to coaches who criticize the officiating?
Absolutely correct.
This is what happens when you cut down on fighting and players policing themselves. If someone had just dropped the gloves and went after Virtanen then the league would suspend them for that action. Virtanen knows nothing will happen to him. Player safety my _
what a baby who cares how small you are, take him out, man up ! ive taken down guys 30 lbs bigger and 6 inches taller .
I mean an elbow is nowhere near as bad as a stick so he needs to relax and not be such a baby
Every time I hear about these DoPS controversies, I think of the same thing… 6 games for “Sloppy Seconds.”
He is right. They are messed up in the nhl. If he was a super star, it would be a different story. So now, he will injure someone as an act of defence and the nhl will be to blame.
Officiating is so predictable. Penalties are based on the context of the game instead of what actually happens on the ice. If a team is winning by 1 goal in the last 5 minutes of a game. With 2 PP against 1, there is a huge possibility that the team winning by a goal will have to kill a penalty in those last 5 minutes for some reason. If there is already a powerplay going on and the team killing the penalty does something blatant, chances are they will not get punished for it by fear of giving a 5 on 3. If the game is not tied, and there is a scrum in front of the net, chances are it will end up being a powerplay for the team trailing behind instead of a 4 on 4. There is a bunch of patterns like this that I noticed watching so many different games. Then I watched the World Juniors and it was a breath of fresh air, totally different.
I don't know what was the context when the hit on Perreault happened but I am sure it has a lot to do with it. The only penalty referees give with confidence these days are the delay of games. Other calls are BS most of the time.
don’t know what he’s talking about but he’s not wrong
It's always been that way. Refs call penalties when they feel like it, not when they happen. They'll watch someone hack you to pieces, but won't call anything until you defend yourself.
This is not a new thing.
Dudes 5’ nothin, he’ll run into anyone’s elbow
If i were all grownup i could fight for myself. Grow a pair you play a rough sport. Definition of a coward " I'll hit you with my stick "
Stop that whining and drop the mits, dont blame other people cause you didnt like something its a physical sport! Protect yourself!
Player safety is a joke
Where can I cop the toque he's wearing?
Parros dropped the ball
“I’m the smallest guy on the ice so I can’t really fight anybody…” oh please quit being a wuss and just drop the gloves you’re 5”10 not 5”3.
I’m a Canucks fan and I agree with him. There needs to be some discipline.
That’s the most sportsnet I’ve watched since Nov 12th.
Well if he EVER BREAKS A STICK OVER ANY PLAYER FACE! HE DESERVES TO BE KICKED FROM THE NHL FOR EVER! JUST EVEN MAKING THESE COMMENTS HE SHOULD SERVE A 2 GAME SUSPENSION. That's a strait THREAT!
Canuck fan and I agree completely. That's a bad look for Jake, although he's been a clean player so far in his career and from the video it looked more like a reactionary "trying to absorb contact" thing than "predatory". Still, he's gotta take that on the shoulder and it was his mistake.
He should have received a suspension for that. In a world where the NHL (especially the players…cause their union doesn't seem to pressure the league to change anything) actually cared about safety that would be an automatic 5 to 10 game suspension.
Who else just remembered that Big Byfuglien isn’t playing this season?
What a baby
Wow. Somebody call a Wah-bulance. The reply didn't show any head contact. Sure it was late and could have been penalized, but talk about a princess sympathy case. Because you didn't get your call, you think you can go all McSorley on Donald Brashear now? Grow up or at least grow a pair. Your supposed to be an adult male role model. Idiot.
Virtanen was practically stopped when he contacted MP, Canucks fans see worse than this every night
Yeah that's the biggest whine I've seen. I like Perrault but come on dude you're in the NHL
I grew up playing hockey. My grandparents managed the local rink and I was skating daily since I was 1. Played into college. Been a hockey fan my whole life. I had cable so I could watch as many games as possible. 2 years ago I just had enough. The officials and the league themselves are horrendous. Last year I ditched cable and havent watched a single game since. I still follow things, and things arent getting better. The league got too big and too full of themselves. They need MORE hockey people running things, not business men. Used to be all the refs, coaches, etc., were ex-hockey players. Not today, and it shows.
He's an idiot, and so are most of the comments in here. It wasnt a suspension or fine because his elbow was tucked into the body. Against a regular sized man that was shoulder to shoulder. Not Virtanens fault Perraults a midget who tries to play like hes 6'2
He's 1000% accurate, NHL officials are a joke.
Listen, I hope no gives him a cheap shot again. I’ll be on his side if he retaliates. Justice has to replace vengeance, but if there is no justice, then vengeance fills the vacuum.
It's tough to say, I mean a flick looks like after the hit happened. I think Perrault is just getting frustrated being small. A smaller guy is naturally going to be more at elbow height if he isn't paying attention and he gets hit. Like me, I am short and when I play hockey, when I am skating I am usually at elbow height to taller players when they are standing up right. No one usually is skating upright, they are a bit more leaned forward, where as when you go in for a hit you are more upright. I can see his frustration, but to me it looks like he just got stood up, and Virtannen's size got the better of Perrault. Are they going to start making rules that short guys can't get hit. I mean late hits happen all the time and not get called. I think he needs to realize his size difference.
I'm watching every jets game to see if hes a man of his words haha. I wanna see this shorty batting his hockey stick
He’s right
Refs have been a joke for a lot of years now and it only gets worse in the playoffs.
This should have been a penalty but discipline from the league? Common, not a chance.
It's unfortunate that this happened but you can't put all the blame on the refs. Of course there's accountability but they can't keep their eye on every player and as Perreault said he didn't have the puck which means the refs weren't looking at him. Player safety definitely should have stepped in.
I think the league should fine Brad Marchand for Perreault comments
Still looking for the elbow.
Watch the hit carefully, Virtanen's skate posture, he actually holds up just before the hit. Yes, Virtanen flicks his arm out slightly, but it's mostly a size difference issue. Man…. compared that to how Tkachuk goes full charging stride to a number of players (almost) blind side (yes he's done it more than once), Tkachuk would've obliterated Perreault with that size.
another crybaby millionaire
I would never want to be a hockey referee.
I've seen worse hits against the Sedins when they were around no call or suspensions they got targeted hard and concussed
didn't complain or say anything like Perreault putting himself actually out there if he does actually end up doin it to attentions to hurt someone for a hit which barely grazed him his elbow barely caught his jaw with his head down it wasn't at his head other wise it'd be a different story he'd be concussed right now if it was harder of a hit.
Sucks being a midget in hockey, everyone else's elbows are at your face level. I bet elevators smell way different to him too.
I’m gonna use my stick as a bat and hit someone in the head and says I better not get suspended.
