  1. about time. Though they should never have been fined in the first place. Vegas, not knowing how to use Cap Friendly or actually read a player's contract over a whole year, was the only crime here.

  2. Oh yah great news. Comes AFTER the trade deadline where the Sens could have used it as currency to improve the team.

Don’t be fooled, the penalty isn’t just the fine and dropping to 32nd overall. It’s also taking the opportunity away from the Sens to use the pick before deadline day. I never really believed the conspiracy that Bettman doesn’t want Canadian teams to win until now.

  3. Alright time to look at draft boards for late first round steals, fall in love with each player, think they’ll be that guy, and watch the sens select another dude that ends up being better than those other guys anyway

  4. So, you had this player's contract at your disposal and never even read it? Really? REALLY? I doubt that very much… That should never have happened

  5. Wow this is a huge surprise. Really thought this was gone forever. Still sucks that it's not going to be in a better position

  6. The $1M fine should be paid by Dorian. I know it won’t happen but maybe the management sue him for it or something like that.

  7. Am happy with this outcome. Bettman could have clearly done nothing but chose to offer the Senators some benefit (rather than nothing at all).

I believe in the past Bettman has rewarded franchises if they are deemed to exhibit good behaviour over a duration of time (in this case, meaning the franchise doesn't whine about the penalty and keep their noses clean from an NHL image/business standpoint).

An example might be how Bettman dealt with NJ over their Kovalchuk signing (cap circumvention) whereby NJ lost a draft pick but later was given it back.

It feels like Ottawa has been dealt with similarly albeit the penalties were not entirely removed.

  8. I mean that’s a fair punishment of having a 1st round pick demoted to 32nd and not being able to trade it, especially since it would probably have been traded away by now if we didn’t have this whole situation.
