Connor Ingram Injured By MacKinnon But Bednar Says No Major Penalty Deserved

After the polarizing hit from Nathan MacKinnon on Connor Ingram, Avs head coach Jared Bednar shared his thoughts on the play and why just because MacKinnon injured the Oilers’ goaltender, doesn’t mean he should’ve been penalized.

  1. Did MacKinnon not thing the goalie would be in his crease? He hauled ass into the crease, nothing Nurse did changed what happened. No way he could have stopped in time. He was always going to slam into Ingram. If anything he deserves a suspension.

  2. I mean, if a high stick draws blood, whether it's accidental or not, its a double minor. Mack collided with nurse, not pushed, hit Ingram, and drew blood. It's a major

  3. If nurse wasn't there MacKinnon wouldn't have even touched the goalie. The call should be made accordingly

  4. I see it that way, too. "If you put guys into your own goalie it's not a penalty"

Buuuuut that isn't what happened. MacKinnon skated into Nurse and Ingram.

  5. That’s what paying the refs get you, no playoff without the refs getting payed by the oilers, like the last couple of years… holding my thumbs for a plane going down soon…

  6. Avs lost that game because Makar and the Avs defense was terrible. Oilers scored when they were all alone in front of the net. No Avs defenseman in sight.

  7. You misheard the context. Bias much. His full context was this: MacKinnon tried to turn up ice to avoid the contact. The oiler defender came in from the side and hit him into the goaltender. At that point, why should he care if the goalie is hurt? The oiler defender is the one that cause MacKinnon's trajectory to run into the goal tender.

  8. "Going through the top of the CREASE before the collision with Nurse". So he was going mach 10 through the crease regardless of contact, dude would have had to do a hard stop or cutback to avoid contact which was not going to happen regardless.

Well deserved major, no intent but it was a direct hit to the head of the goaltender.

  9. Pretty bad call. 2 minutes. That's it. Fans pretending Nurse had no impact is laughable. Either way, it won't save the Oilers this year. Ultimately, the refs ruined a fairly entertaining game.

  10. It wasn’t a major penalty. If your toes are pointed away from the goalie physics says you’re going to go that way, Nurse makes MacK go into Ingram. If this was the other way y’all would be bitching about it being a penalty. It’s really telling that not one Oiler player goes after MacK or even says anything to him. We had one of our goalies get his leg hurt last year because a dude hit him and it wasn’t a penalty and while the goalie is hurt they scored and Bedsy said then it wasn’t a penalty because our player caused it just like this one.

  11. Who's at fault if a player gets checked into a goalie? Forget Avs Oilers. Should you get penalized for driving to the top of the crease and getting tripped or checked into the goalie?

  12. Bednar has been on the other side of this situation before and gave the same opinion. Against buffalo last season a player ran into drury in front of the net and fell on wedgewood injuring him. Bednar said it shouldn’t have been a penalty (it wasn’t called one) and that we put the guy into our own goalie. The only problem bednar had with the play was that the refs didn’t blow the play dead and let the Sabers score (wedgewood was down for several seconds before the goal) You guys thought you had the gotcha but he’s an unbiased coach. It shouldn’t have been a penalty. The result does not constitute a penalty. That’s what Bednar is saying (clearly but gotta get you’re views right)

  13. lost some respect for bednar for his comments. Mackinnon not taking accountability for injuring a player. the nhl needs to Crack down on head contact like this. Bednar admitted he was going thru the crease.

  14. Zebras missed calls? Of course they did. They always do. Were they also responsible for the at least 4 times in the first 2 periods when Oiler players were completely alone in the slot in Avs end? Maybe the refs distracted the Avs with the old “hey look, it’s Elvis”?

  15. He should care, regardless of the outcome, Ingram had his head hit and that can be bad.

Have some consideration for the individual…. should McKinnon been booted out for the rest? No but a 5 min penalty regardless.

  16. It also helps when the refs especially Sutherland is helping the Oilers. I saw that last night after Nichushkin scored. Sutherland had to find a penalty to call on the Avs. If you are going to badmouth Bednar watch his entire clip. What would you have done if that was McDavid? Was a 5 minute major warranted on the golden boy. Wow your opinion would change..

  17. Mack was clearly pushed into Ingram. It was a horrible call that threw the game. That's a minor penalty all day

  18. Yup I agree with Bednar. Definitely a bad take you guys have. Also you keep saying how violent it was warrantied a penalty. Dude…..hockey is violent, that is not what penalties are based on. They are based on fault. 🤦

  19. Lol ya'll are clueless, the contact doesn't happen without Nurse pushing him in. You'd be moaning and whining if the call was against the Oil. Yes Mackinnon is responsible, and he did exactly what he should be doing, driving the crease as a forward, what else do you want him to do?

  20. Regardless of contact he was definitely pushing it with how closely he cut to the net, no way was he not trying to buzz the crease at the least, also what would Bednars commet be if Mc David leveled Blackwood?

  21. Call it a penalty, but the fact alone that mackinnon was assisted into Ingram, but you dont need to toss the guy. I really do think mackinnon misses Ingram if he wasn't pushed into the goalie.

  22. Maybe I'm crazy but to me, I've watched the clip a million times, I don't know if it should have been a major and tbh I don't care. That said, how can you possibly claim that MacKinnon never would have crashed into him if it weren't for Nurse? Like you said, Nurse impacted the play, but MacKinnon looked like he was going to crash into Ingram no matter what. Maybe it would have been a lesser hit or maybe bumping into Nurse made it a lesser hit, but he was always going to crash into Ingram. It was reckless but not malicious.

  23. Deliberately injuring another player should be at least a 3 month suspension. The NHL really needs to get serious about this.

  24. BS penalty by the refs. How can they call this a penalty? I’ve watched this play over and over at different angles at .25x speed and it clearly shows Nurse pushing McKinnon into Ingram.
