Episode 32 of the Tri-State Hockey Podcast, presented by No Vig, is a full voicemail edition as Jonny Lazarus, Mike Rupp, and Arthur Staple let the listeners drive the conversation.
The guys open with a Rangers-heavy discussion on Chris Drury’s lack of visibility with the fanbase before diving into Alexis Lafrenière’s recent offensive surge, what’s real, what’s situational, and whether his chemistry with Gabe Perreault could be a meaningful sign for the future.
They also shift to the Devils and break down Jack Hughes’ recent growth as a leader following his Olympic experience, what Sheldon Keefe had to say about it, and why winning at a high level can change a player’s voice inside a room.
Then the show turns heavily toward the Islanders, with multiple voicemails focused on Mathieu Darche, the Brayden Schenn trade, J.G. Pageau’s extension, prospect timelines, roster flexibility, and whether Mathew Barzal is part of the problem on the power play or still central to the solution. A fun, opinionated, fan-driven episode with strong debate from all three hosts.

Best Hockey Show Going
Good pod as always. A little tidbit on NMC: Lubo had a nmc he signed w/ the kings. LA then traded him to the Oilers a day before the NMC kicked; two years later Visnovsky waived his NMC to allow a trade from the Oilers to Anaheim. Anaheim then traded Lubo to the isles, Lubo filed a grievance saying he had a NMC in effect and the arbitrator ruled that the trade as valid as a player waiving their NMC under the CBA meant forfeiting the nmc clause for future trades.
No idea if the language still exists under the new CBA, I'd imagine it has changed as I haven't heard it come up since.
Re: Isles – I think if Darche traded for those guys, he can also trade them himself. 1-3 years left on contracts is not locked in for 10. Big difference.
Good show boys ! Rangers in 7 ….Maybe next year ! ….GO Laffy 🥅🏒🥅🏒
Also Darche also said the C Market is very thin, and the Isles only have Ritchie as the option for 2C and I don't think he can slide into that role on a consistent basis at 21, so I don't understand the issue.
The 3rd goal for STL was all on Mayfield, who followed around the net and left the other side wide open.
Isles twitter is filled with a bunch of twenty something, fisherman wearing babies that couldn't pick Mike Milbury out of a lineup. Get some perspective for where the franchise came from being lost in the wilderness for over a generation. 4th oldest team and also a restocked farm system. They will be gone when the kids are ready. Brayden Schenn was a captain and a Stanley Cup champion who will stick up for Schaefer as well as mentor Ritchie. And youngsters on Twitter also keep another thing in mind. The Islanders are on every player's no trade list including Schenn who waived it after speaking with Roy and Darche. Parayko did not waive his to go to Buffalo and I'm certain Kyrou, who wasn't moved, also would not come to the Island. And even if he would I would not have parted with Aitcheson. As for worrying about the offense, worry about the power play. Score and good chance to win, don't score and bite your fingernails. Teams are allowing Barzal to handle the puck and pressuring the other side. That's the reason the puck is always on the Barzal/ Ritchie side. He's a great player and absolutely hurts the PP. He never draws out a defenseman because they aren't afraid of his shot. The biggest problems on the roster are Engvall and Duclair, hardly a Darche doing.
when is Chris Drury joining the show? 😅
The Devils need a shakeup, I feel like a huge one would be taking the c off of Nico and putting it on our golden boy Jack Hughes. Is there a 0% chance that happens?
Lou did a lot of deals with no trade clause
How do I leave a voicemail? Number or link please
