Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon was given a major + a game misconduct for his contact with Oilers goalie Connor Ingram. Ingram would leave the game and be replaced by Tristan Jarry.

He will never be the same after Canada choked to the šŗšø USAš
Horrible call, may be a bit bias bc im an avs fan but if nurse didnt hit him he wouldāve easily avoided that contact, maybe they couldāve just given him 2 mins for goaltender interference but a game misconduct was not the right call at all
Horrible call Nurse should have got a tripping penalty on the play. I don't know how these refs came up with that stupid idiotic call from watching the replay
Mack can hit goalies but not wide open nets? this dude going down hill
This is only acceptable in the playoffs
If done by the Panthers š
The officiating in this game was atrocious, both ways, but this call was just recklessly bad. If someone with an outside view saw this call, they'd think the refs had money on the game. There needs to be a way to police bad officiating, in ALL professional sports, not just the NHL. Fines, suspensions, and demotion to lower leagues ALL need to be on the table for punishment for officials. This game was ridiculous.
Bennett does this every game and never gets kicked out for it
Nurse 100% caused that CONTACT, YOU CAN SEE HIM PUSH THE OPPONENT laterally . 2 minutes. Mcdavid cuts through the crease every game like that.
Good call these goalies are focused on the puck not where the player is going after shooting, if they needed to show by example itās this one
MacKinnon was going to wind up 'steam rolling' Ingram with or without Nurse making contact with him, which was minimal. Reckless play on the part of MacKinnon. Think he's still pissed about that stuffed animal.
People complain rightly about poor officiating, but what about the talking heads in the broadcasting booth that just rubber-stamp calls like this?
WOW. Rigged. No other way to see it. They even got to watch the replay. Clearly he was checked into him. A minor, okay, but a major? No FN way.
NHL making sure their golden boy,MCJESUS, making the playoffs.
I don't believe it was worth an ejection
Find it ironic Nate looks like heās gonna start tearing up when he gets the misconduct, after kneeing someone in the head. That said, point of contact 100% factored into the ruling to try sending a message. If he wouldāve hit him square in the body, I doubt we see as harsh a penalty.
Poor call, when considering a video review. The defender clearly caused the collision
Games in which Kelly Sutherland is the head referee COL is 3-12
That should have been 2 minutes penalty, not 5 and misconduct, terrible call…. He had no other way to not hit goalie as Nurse crashed into him
Surprised at the comments. Ole Nate skated right into the goalie. Misconduct? Iffy. Penalty? Absolutely.
They reviewed the video ? I guess they had a different video than the rest of us. Cause it sure looks like Nurse trips him into the goal;ie 100% Nurse' fault. Poor officiating, hopefully they can get their act together before playoffs.
Start fining defensemen for doing this please!
Iām just here to see the Avalanche fans complain about the lack of consistency in NHL officiating. š¦
I don't even think this was even a 2 so 5 and a game blows my mind.
So Bennett can take stolarz out of the playoffs with an elbow out of nowhere , no call. but MacKinnon gets pushed into the goalie on a bone headed play by nurse and he gets ejected. Thatās what to expect from this bush league. No consistency from one day to the next. Thatās how they fix em up.
FLOPPING – š”š”
There is no place in hockey for this kind of behavior! The goalie should be penalized for āfloppingā.
Refs in the NHL are pathetic.
Correct call.
Being a ref must be extremely difficult. Especially when they donāt know what they are doing. Terrible call. Nurse clearly created that entire collision. You can clearly see MacKinnon trying to move out of the way to avoid the goalie before Nurse hits and trips him. Just ridiculous. Really would have liked to see this game play out without the refs taking liberties to put their stamp on it. Both teams were going back and forth at each other at this point in the game. The NHL will never learn to hold refs like this accountable.
Surprised to see it elevated to 5 and a game. Looked like a 2 minute minor given the influence of Nurse on the play.
That said, I would love to see the NHL consistently call this across all teams/players. As it stands, goalies are often poorly protected and goaltender interference rarely called when it should be.
Do I think it was a sketchy call? Yeah. Just a 2 min call would've been sufficient. But, zero chance Avs fans wouldn't have been bitching up a storm had a Oil player plowed into Wedgewood.
So nurse isn't responsible for anything? Grwat….
I miss when Edzo was with the Krakenās on air team. He and Johnny Forslund are hilarious together. Like Statler and Walford.
I somewhat agree that 5 and a game was excessive, but the basis for that was head contact that led to injury. Had McKinnon hit him in the body, with or without Nurse hitting his feet, it would have been a run of the mill minor. Avs fans should definitely quit screaming about Sutherland making the call because he hates their team and quit acting like 12 year olds.
The NHL needs to do better on ruling when a member of the goalies team checks an opposing player into them. This is one of the worst calls I have seen in recent memory.
I see a 5 and a game for this and then I remember Kreider bowling into Price with nothing attached to it smh
A match penalty for goaltender interference?
Itās 100 percent goaltender interference, but for a game misconduct? What the hell else is MacKinnon supposed to do? Heās going back post for a tip in, the pass is coming from the opposite side of the ice, Ingram has to traverse to the other side of the net, and the defenceman coming back to cover (Darnell Nurse) is moving towards the goal crease. Nurse misses MacKinnon because MacKinnon carried his speed to get into a good position to get the pass- this is a bang-bang play. Ingram was not beating the puck there, and decided to stretch, thus leaving him compromised. Nurse, on his late attempt to cover, swings his arm and stick to poke at the stick of MacKinnon, this failed and now it blocks Mackinnonās route to get away from a collision. MacKinnon had no space to stride, and was gliding. However Nurse was in stride coming back; the position of his arm and stick caused contact with his chest on Mackinnonās body- clearly altering MacKinnonās path of direction. The tight space is exasperated because if you notice, the stick of Connor Ingram is in the direct foot travel of MacKinnon. This is why MacKinnon attempted to hop out of the situation. But due to the affect of Ingrams position, the speed MacKinnon is travelling in relation to the defenceman; and said defenceman is facing the net, striding to it, AND contacts the attacking player MacKinnon to alter Mackinnonās trajectory enough to run into Connor Ingram. Through this sequence MacKinnon attempted a desperate move of hopping over the stick of the goaltender. But this was his undoing. In Mackinnonās own attempt to avoid possible injury from being tripped by both the defender and goaltender he causes a collision with Ingram. Easy 2:00 goaltender interference call.
AT NO POINT WAS THERE ANY INTENTION OF DELIBERATE INJURIOUS HARM TO THE GOALTENDER. This play is not a match penalty.
What was Nurse thinking he would accomplish with that move? Idiot
It was definitely a penalty..i don't think it was nefarious..i don't think a major was necessary.
It amazes me that nobody can see that the basis for the 5 and a game was due to head contact that caused an injury. It is not because of the goalie interference in and of itself. It is the result of the contact.
If you watch in slow motion the video clearly shows Nurse checking Mackinnon into the goalie. His head and body force MacKinnon into the goalie. I guess they don't have slow motion for the NHL refs?
Look at 0:51. Slow the replay down to 0.25. Nate is clearly cutting hard to keep out of the crease but clown Nurse makes contact with him and changes his trajectory significantly. Nurse is to blame, 100%.
Super dangerous play. Was intentional? Kind of. Fine or even suspension
As a goalie and an Avs fan, this should have been 2 mins at the most. The reffing was brutal beyond this miscall too and I felt it influenced the game more than either of the 2 teams participating did.
He very clearly had his path redirected by contact with Nurse. How do you take that long and still give 5 and a game?
Hey, I recognize this guy. He missed an empty goal in the Olympic final.
The dumbass Colorado coach said this shouldn't even be 2 min. What a moron!
