I am lige.long Islanders fan & beloved in Darche but this is one of the worst deadline days for them. Way overpaid for old Schenn who can't skate anymore. Iskes set with that type of player. Then not trading Lee & Pageau & worse resigning Pageau. Giving up all those assets & not gaining the assets they could have is going to limit their ability to improve. If Schenn couldn't get on PP & PK on Stl how is he gonna help the Isles.
Schenn was a good hockey player…not great by any stretch. To give up a 1st, a 3rd and a prospect seems like an incredible overpay for an aging and very slow player.
We gave up a LATE 1st round pick for Schenn. Look at last years later picks….ALL of them have been traded between one and 4x already.
Point being….they arent great players. Even the teams that drafted them dealt them away. I dont mind giving up late 1st round picks for established talent.
Its VERY rare that a late 1st round pick or 2nd round pick becomes a star. We all know Patsa the 25th pick….and wr remember that bc it happens so infrequently.
Isles fans…..we need to get over losing that pick, odds it was worthless
I would like this trade if St Lous had eaten the Duclair contract instead. This trade barely moves the needle for the Isles. Schenn is slow and a defensive liability. If this is all about protecting Schaefer, Darche could have done better.
