The Calgary Flames continued their roster transformation at the 2026 NHL trade deadline

Since he took the job in 2023, Calgary Flames general manager Craig Conroy has really transformed his team’s roster. That process continued, in a big way, ahead of the 2026 NHL trade deadline, most notably with the trade of Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche.

Ryan digs into everything that went down on deadline day and how it impacts the Flames going forward.

  1. I was confused by the Strome trade, but I also was trying to not get my hopes up for a Kadri trade, because I just thought typical Flames doing nothing and then making a random vet depth move. Very glad to be wrong.

  2. Are the flames the modern day Mtl from a few yrs ago?

I owe all the flames org a huge apology. Wow.

** Conspiracy: did Bettmans visit "loosen" the purse strings for Utah?

  3. Good review, im Happy with the moves the flames made. Gotta keep that cap space open so we can make Makar the highest paid player in the league to open the new building. Haha #BringMakarHome

  4. Suggestion:

Do that spreadsheet/picture again. The future looks great:

young existing players in /out NHL:
    parekh
    zary (poor kid – knees)
    wolfe
    Backup
1-2-4 current flames – not a huge fan, so I'm not familiar, but someone can fill me in

    AHL/NCAA/other kids drafted by flames
    Wytten and recent trade

    then:
    the draft pics by round.

Talk about a great platform that changed in ~2weeks.

  5. Hopefully this locks in a top 3 pick.

Wish they would have dealt Kadri closer to Thanksgiving and locked up 1st OA.

  6. Strome is just a body to fill in for the rest of the season. They are better off leaving the farm on the farm to fight for a playoff. The motivation for this team will be lacking for the rest of the season and the only goal would be to get Parekh comfortable in the nhl for next year. At least the wranglers are competitive.
