The Vancouver Canucks have dealt winger Conor Garland to the Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline on Friday.
The team announced Friday that they’ll receive a second-round pick in the 2028 draft and a third-round selection this year in exchange for the 29-year-old forward.
Garland has seven goals and 26 points over 50 games this season.
The feisty forward from Scituate, Mass., signed a six-year, US$36-million extension with the Canucks last July — a contract that doesn’t kick in until the 2026-27 season.
Garland is in the final year of a five-year deal that’s worth $4.95 million, annually.
“We really appreciate all that Conor has done for the hockey club and want to thank him for his five years in Vancouver,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement.
“A play driver and strong competitor, he was a key contributor on the ice. Collecting two more draft picks aligns really well with our vision moving forward and will help us in our rebuild.”
Originally selected by Arizona in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, he has 129 goals and 317 points across 535 regular-season games.
Vancouver acquired Garland and defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson from the Coyotes in July 2021. The deal saw the Canucks send Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel and first-, second-, and seventh-round draft picks to Arizona.
“Conor is a versatile player who brings great energy to the lineup every night and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome he and his family to Columbus,” Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell said in a statement.
“He has tremendous character, plays a reliable two-way game and will be an important part of our club now and in the future.”
The deal is the latest move for a rebuilding Canucks (18-36-7) team that sits at the bottom of the NHL standings.

Hard to see a guy like that traded away. A player who gives a 150% night in and night out.
Meanwhile a worthless, extremely overpaid, overrated bozo is still in that organization. 🤦🏻♂️
👏Conor👋 Garland👏
Thrilled to have Conor on the Jackets down the stretch!!
Sad to see you go Garland! Wish you all the best! Sending luv from vancouver!
Wish Garland nothing but the best. I wish all of our players had the same attitude and drive as him. Nothing bad to say about a guy like him. Gonna miss him, wish things could have worked out.
